The Ethiopian Economics Association (EEA) is pleased to participate in the 3rd Annual BRICS Think Tanks Council Conference (BTTC), taking place from April 22–23, 2026, in Bahir Dar.

Co-organized by the Institute of Foreign Affairs (IFA) and Bahir Dar University (BDU), the conference brings together policymakers, academics, and experts to discuss “The Prospect of BRICS and Ethiopia’s Priorities,” with a focus on climate leadership, artificial intelligence, trade, and investment. EEA Signs Landmark MoUs to Strengthen Regional Economic Collaboration in South Ethiopia

The Ethiopian Economics Association has signed two significant Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) aimed at strengthening partnerships and advancing regional economic development in the South Ethiopia Regional State. The agreements were formalized during the First Annual Conference on South Ethiopia Regional State Economic Development, held in collaboration with Arba Minch University.

The first MoU was signed between the Ethiopian Economics Association and the South Ethiopia Regional State Planning and Development Bureau, represented by Dr. Addis Kassahun, Vice President of EEA, and Mr. Zekarias Zassa. This agreement is expected to enhance collaboration in policy research, data analysis, and evidence-based planning to support the region’s development agenda.

The second MoU was concluded between the Ethiopian Economics Association and the South Ethiopia Chamber of Commerce and Sectoral Associations, represented by Dr. Addis Kassahun and Eng. Bogale Bitane, President of the Chamber. The Ethiopian Economics Association, in collaboration with Arba Minch University, has successfully concluded a two-day Advanced Impact Evaluation Training designed to strengthen the capacity of researchers, practitioners, and students in rigorous policy and program evaluation.

Conducted from April 2–3, 2026, in Arba Minch, the training was delivered by Molla Alemayehu and Abule Mehare. The program convened a diverse group of participants, including senior faculty members from Arba Minch, Wolaita S**o, and Dilla Universities, doctoral students, representatives of the South Ethiopia Chamber of Commerce and sectoral associations, and policymakers from the South Ethiopia Regional State Planning and Development Bureau.

The training provided a comprehensive blend of theoretical and practical insights into advanced impact evaluation methodologies widely applied in economic and policy research. Key topics included Randomized Controlled Trials (RCTs), Difference-in-Differences (DID), matching techniques, and Regression Discontinuity Design (RDD).

Through structured lectures, interactive discussions, and applied case analyses, participants enhanced their capacity to design, implement, and critically interpret impact evaluations. It brought together a diverse group of participants including senior faculty members from Hawassa University, PhD students, development practitioners, and policymakers from the Sidama Regional State Planning and Development Bureau.

The program covered both the theoretical foundations and practical applications of advanced evaluation methods widely used in economic and policy research.
