Alumni Spotlight

Meet Thwol Okado Alwal, Alumni Engagement Lead of the Circle of the EU Youth Alumni Network Ethiopia, based in Gambella.

Mr. Thwol is the Dean and Lecturer at Gambella University School of Law. He holds an LL.B. and LL.M. in Human Rights and Justice Studies, and is a second-cohort member of the EU Youth Sounding Board Ethiopia.

His work focuses on human rights, transitional justice, indigenous and minority rights, gender equality, peacebuilding, good governance, and youth inclusion in policy and decision-making.

Through the EU Youth Alumni Network, he aims to strengthen connections among EU alumni and support young leaders working for inclusive governance and lasting positive change across Ethiopia.

Meet Seblewengel Solomon, Country Lead of the EU Youth Alumni Network in Ethiopia, based in Addis Ababa.

Seblewengel is a lawyer, governance and women’s rights advocate, Founder of the Active Women Initiative, and a first-cohort member of the EU Youth Sounding Board in Ethiopia.

Her work focuses on democratic governance, gender equality, human rights, youth leadership, and inclusive policy processes.

Through the platform, she aims to connect with EU alumni and young leaders working on governance, human rights, gender equality, youth empowerment, and civic engagement.

🌍🤝 Under the AU–EU youth engagement spaces at the AU Headquarters in Addis Ababa, we had the opportunity to represent The Circle of the EU Youth Alumni Ethiopia and engage in conversations on strengthening AU–EU youth collaboration.

Held under the theme “Intercontinental Youth Collaboration: Strengthening AU–EU Partnership in Peace, Climate and Economic Development,” the summit brought together young leaders from Africa and Europe to exchange ideas on diplomacy, policy engagement, and youth leadership.

Through the AU Youth Lab and AU YOMA spaces, we shared how The Circle of the EU Youth ALUMNI Ethiopia is creating opportunities for connection, collaboration, and meaningful youth participation across communities. ✨
