The 2026/27 STEMpower Software, Electronics, and Chemical Microfactory Summer Outreach Program has officially wrapped up, celebrating its graduates after two intensive months of hands-on learning, innovation, and entrepreneurial training at Kotebe University of Education STEM center.

The program has been organized by Kotebe University of Education, Case Western Reserve University and STEMpower Inc.

Beyond core technical skills, the program helped participants build essential life skills, including problem-solving, communication, teamwork, self-confidence, and project development, giving them the tools to turn scientific theory into real-world solutions.

Reflecting on his journey, graduate Esubalew Kassa shared: “Ever since I was a kid, I dreamed of becoming a chemist. Participating in the Chemical Microfactory program, in collaboration with Case Western Reserve University, allowed me to learn chemistry through real hands-on work and finally made my dream a reality. It also gave me a huge boost in my communication, confidence, and project-building skills.”

Fellow graduate Yonas Girma echoed this sentiment: “This two-month journey completely changed how I look at STEM by bridging the gap between classroom theory and practical experience. I learned how to spot real-world problems, build effective solutions, collaborate with others, and bring my ideas to life.”

Huge congratulations to all the graduates, and a heartfelt thank you to the dedicated mentors who guided and supported them every step of the way!

Higher Officials from KUE, CWRU and STEMpower attended the graduation program and encouraged the students to gear their careers in STEM streams.

Celebrating another milestone for inclusion and economic empowerment!

We just wrapped up the second cohort of the We Can Work Project in Lege Tafo, Shaggar Sub-city, delivered by STEMpower in partnership with Light for the World.

This round, 52 participants with disabilities dove headfirst into practical entrepreneurship and business development. From crafting sustainable business ideas and financial planning to mastering branding and marketing, these changemakers are ready to step into the economy with confidence.

STEMpower recently brought hands-on science closer to the neighborhood at a local community bazaar, highlighting our ongoing work in technology, innovation, and youth entrepreneurship. Visitors of all ages explored our interactive FabLab science kits and tried out live STEM activities, discovering firsthand how practical science sparks creativity and builds real-world skills.

Proudly designed and manufactured right here in Ethiopia to align with our national curricula, these educational tools are now available for purchase. We supply public and private schools, as well as development partners dedicated to advancing education across Ethiopia and the broader African continent.

Participating in the bazaar gave our team an incredible platform to connect directly with families, collaborate with fellow organizations, and open up new pathways for future innovators. Events like these drive our mission to make practical STEM learning accessible to everyone.

Launch of the Second Cohort of SHECodes360 Training Program

After the incredible journey of our first round, we at STEMpower are beyond excited to open our doors to over 120 women entrepreneurs and startup founders for Cohort 2 of the SHECodes360 Training Program, hosted at the Ministry of Innovation and Technology - Ethiopia and powered in close partnership with the Embassy of Finland in Addis Ababa - Suomen suurlähetystö Addis Abeba and IBM SkillsBuild under the theme “Empowering Women Startups through Digital Innovation.”

Building on the success of our first 52 trailblazing alumni and the strong foundation of the Tigat (Digital SkillsBuild) project, which trained and certified 3,260 young women in digital skills in 2024/25, these brilliant women are now diving into an intensive three-week journey covering Entrepreneurial Mindset, Business Development, Digital Literacy, AI, Cybersecurity, and Startup Communication.

We were deeply honored to have Tomi Särkioja, Head of Cooperation at the Embassy of Finland, join us to kick things off. His words hit home for all of us: "We want to see you succeed. We want to see Ethiopia succeed. That is precisely why we are investing in this program."

Our Country Director, Dr. Simenew Keskes, also shared an inspiring note with the room, reminding everyone that this space is just as much about building lasting networks and lifting each other up as it is about technical skills.

Adding his encouragement, Tadesse Anbessie, Startups Support Desk Head at the Ministry of Innovation and Technology, told the trainees: “What we are witnessing today already shows that Ethiopia has far greater potential than we often realize. Through you, this country will transform and we are truly happy to see it unfolding.”

Nothing speaks louder than our alumni, though. Hearing from first-cohort graduates, like structural architect and entrepreneur Elshadai Eshetu reminded us why we do this. As Elshadai beautifully put it: "This has been the best experience; with the best people I have met... STEMpower helped me pick up my challenges and turn them into opportunities for my own growth."

STEMpower has officially launched Cohort 2 of the We Can Work Entrepreneurship Training, with a total of 25 trainees, creating another opportunity for participants to strengthen their entrepreneurial skills, build confidence, and explore pathways toward sustainable livelihoods.

The opening session was led by Mr. Tesfaye Jima, Project Manager at Light for the World, who delivered an inspiring message encouraging participants to actively engage throughout the training, remain committed to their learning journey, and make the most of this valuable opportunity.

Sharing her experience, Helen Techal, Food Entrepreneur and trainee, said:

“We have been trained in communication, entrepreneurship, and self-development skills. In the upcoming days, we will have more time and opportunities to learn additional skills and apply them to my business. Thank you.”

Through practical learning and entrepreneurship-focused activities, the training aims to equip participants with relevant knowledge and skills to develop their ideas, identify opportunities, and take meaningful steps toward building sustainable businesses and livelihoods.
