Bio
Former students alumni from the 1960s of the Etege MenenSchool for girls established the “Etege Menen Girls School AlumniAssociation” in North America on January 2020. The association is registered as a nonprofit organization with the state of Virginia and all donations are one hundred percent tax-deductible in the USA. In 1931 Empress Menen founded the girls’ school, which bore her name. Wh
en the school first opened its doors, a Hungarian journalist Farago described the institution’s installations as the “most modern” in the Capital and added: “the dormitories impressed me most of all. They were hygienic and tidy, and a Swiss pensionat could not have been more comfortable.” The renowned Greek architect Balanos designed the school and today it stands as one of the major historical buildings in the capital. Goal
The school has been instrumental in providing outstanding education to so many women since its inception in 1931. The school also operated as a coed school in the name of Yekatit 12 for thirty-plus years. In 2019, the Yekatit 12 Preparatory School was dedicated back to an all-girls school and also reverted its name to its former name of Etege Menen Girls Boarding School. The school provides five hundred girls free education, room and board. However, the school lacks essential school infrastructure due to neglect of the upkeep for over 30 years. School Library, Science laboratory, Arts, Gym and other essential structures and materials are non-existent. The Association is trying to raise funds to rebuild the infrastructure to bring the school back to its glory days. We have set up a GoFund Me account to raise the fund. We kindly ask that you join us in this fundraiser campaign by donating and spreading the word! No amount is too small or too large. We appreciate anything that you can give.
