Participation in the High-Level Diplomatic Briefing on UNSC reform restitution for Africa's historical exclusion:

We express our sincere gratitude to the African Union's Economic, Social and Cultural Council (AU ECOSOCC) for the invitation to participate in the High-Level Diplomatic Briefing on the topic of UNSC Reform and Restitution for Africa's Historical Exclusion. This significant event took place alongside the 38th African Union Summit on Friday, 14 February 2025, at Elilly Hotel in Addis Ababa.

Objectives of the Meeting:
The primary aim of this meeting was to forge a "coalition of the leading" nations committed to drafting a United Nations General Assembly Resolution. This resolution seeks to invoke Article 109 of the UN Charter, focusing on the restitution for Africa's historical exclusion from pivotal global governance structures.

Key Focus Areas:
The session was centered on several critical areas:
• Strategic Interventions: Discussions were held on methods to reinforce Africa's global influence. By enhancing strategic alliances and partnerships, the coalition aims to ensure Africa plays a more prominent role on the world stage.
• Advancing Reparatory Justice: The dialogue emphasized the importance of addressing historical injustices and working towards reparatory justice for Africa. This involves acknowledging past exclusions and making substantial efforts to correct these historical wrongs.
• Meaningful Participation in International Decision-Making: A significant part of the discussion focused on ensuring Africa's meaningful involvement in international forums and decision-making processes. This involves advocating for African representation in global institutions, particularly in the United Nations Security Council (UNSC).

As participants in this critical diplomatic briefing, we are committed to supporting initiatives that promote equity and inclusivity in global governance, ensuring Africa's voices are heard and respected in international affairs.

We look forward to working closely with all stakeholders to achieve these objectives and pave the way for a more inclusive and representative United Nations.
