💙 Myths and Facts About Children with Special Needs

Misconceptions about disabilities and special needs often lead to stigma and exclusion. Understanding the facts helps us build communities where every child is valued and included.

❌ Myth: Children with special needs cannot learn or succeed.
✅ Fact: Every child can learn, develop, and contribute meaningfully when given the right support and opportunities.
❌ Myth: Disabilities are caused by curses or sins.
✅ Fact: Disabilities are medical, developmental, genetic, or neurological conditions, not punishments or causes for blame.
❌ Myth: Children with special needs should stay at home.
✅ Fact: Every child has the right to education, healthcare, play, and participation in family and community life.
❌ Myth: Parents are responsible for causing disabilities.
✅ Fact: Conditions such as autism, cerebral palsy, and Down syndrome are not caused by poor parenting. Families deserve support, understanding, and encouragement.
✨ What Is Important to Remember?
✔ Disability does not mean inability.
✔ Every child has dignity and potential.
✔ Families raising children with special needs deserve support, not stigma.
✔ Inclusion begins with understanding.
At Tikuret, we believe that understanding is the first step toward inclusion. By replacing myths with facts and stigma with compassion, we can create communities where every child belongs.
💙 Together, let us replace myths with understanding and build communities where every child is valued and included.

💙 Understanding Special Needs
Children with special needs are children with developmental delays, disabilities, or health conditions who require additional support beyond what is typically needed by children of the same age. The challenges they face are influenced not only by their conditions but also by the support and opportunities available around them.
Examples include Autism Spectrum Disorder, Cerebral Palsy, Down Syndrome, Intellectual Disabilities, Hearing or Visual Impairments, Epilepsy, and Developmental Delays.
✨ Remember:
✔️ Every child has inherent dignity and worth.
✔️ A disability does not define a child's identity or potential.
✔️ With love, support, and inclusion, children with special needs can learn, grow, and thrive.
✔️ Families raising children with special needs deserve understanding and support, not stigma.
🤝 How Can We Support Children with Special Needs?
• Treat every child with respect and compassion.
• Use respectful and inclusive language.
• Promote equal opportunities in schools, communities, and places of worship.
• Support families raising children with special needs.
• Advocate for accessibility and inclusion.
At Tikuret, we believe that every child deserves to be seen, valued, and given the opportunity to reach their full potential.
Together, let us replace stigma with understanding and build communities where every child belongs. 💙

On June 4, 2026, Tikuret was honored to attend the AWiB Business Discussion at Hilton Hotel on the topic “Startup Fever and Its Outcomes.” The event brought together business leaders, entrepreneurs, and professionals to discuss the opportunities, challenges, and impact of startups in today’s evolving business landscape.

During her speech, Sister Asayech, Founder and Visionary of Tikuret Le Setoch Ena Le Hitsanat Mahiber, shared the exciting news of the launch of a local child sponsorship program. Previously available only to the diaspora community, the program is now open to local supporters, creating a meaningful opportunity for individuals and organizations within Ethiopia to directly contribute to the well-being, education, and future of vulnerable children.

The program was a wonderful opportunity to connect with women who have a heart for children and the capacity to support those who need it most. By expanding local participation, Tikuret hopes to build a stronger community of compassionate supporters committed to transforming children's lives.

Sharing our local child sponsorship program was especially meaningful, as women often have a deep understanding of the challenges and struggles faced by mothers and children. We believe that women have the compassion, commitment, and capacity to transform the lives of many families through their support. By joining our local sponsorship program, they can play a vital role in creating brighter futures for vulnerable children and empowering mothers to build more stable and hopeful lives.

Tikuret is grateful for the opportunity to share this initiative and sincerely thanks AWiB for providing this valuable platform. We really appericiate if such discussions continue monthly. We look forward to working together to create lasting impact for women, children, and communities.
