At Good Governance Africa’s 2025 Annual Lecture in Addis Ababa, leaders from across the continent gathered for one urgent conversation: how do we empower Africa’s youth to drive prosperity, accountability and real change?
What emerged was honest, challenging and impossible to ignore.
From youth-led civic movements in Kenya and Uganda, to calls for institutional reform at the African Union, one message echoed throughout the event: Africa cannot afford governance systems that silence its youngest generation.
This wasn’t another polite policy discussion. It was a call for governments, businesses and civil society to stop treating youth empowerment like a slogan and start treating it like a continental priority.
Because when young Africans are empowered, Africa wins.
