We were pleased to host a small roundtable discussion with Eric Meyer, Deputy Assistant Secretary for African and the Middle East at the U.S. Department of the Treasury, during his visit to Addis Ababa.

The discussion provided an important opportunity for AmCham members to share their perspectives on Ethiopia’s current business climate and ongoing macroeconomic reforms.

We appreciate the open and constructive exchange, and the opportunity to contribute private sector insights to a conversation of such significance for Ethiopia’s economic future and deeper U.S. commercial and financial engagement.

AmCham Ethiopia, in partnership with Center for International Private Enterprise, was pleased to host a full-day executive workshop titled “Beyond Compliance: Building Resilience and Growth Through ESG Sustainability.”

Held on February 27, 2026, at the Marriott Executive Apartments Addis Ababa, the workshop brought together CEOs, Managing Directors, Board Members, and senior executives to explore how ESG is increasingly shaping corporate strategy, risk management, and access to capital.

The session was led by two distinguished ESG practitioners, Samuel Hailu Yirdaw and Deborah Mekbib Kifle, who shared global insights and practical guidance on topics including IFC Performance Standards, ESG risk exposure in Ethiopia’s key sectors, EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR), and building investor-ready Environmental & Social Management Systems (ESMS).

The discussion focused on moving beyond compliance to positioning ESG as a strategic tool for resilience, sustainable growth, and competitiveness in an evolving investment landscape.

We extend our appreciation to the speakers and all participating executives for the engaging discussions and valuable exchange of perspectives.

AmCham Ethiopia, in partnership with Center for International Private Enterprise, was pleased to host a half-day training on Ethical Governance, Integrity, and Compliance for our members.

The session focused on strengthening practical governance systems, identifying operational risks, and embedding integrity into day-to-day business operations. Participants engaged in thoughtful discussions around procurement controls, conflict-of-interest frameworks, whistleblowing mechanisms, and accountability structures within organizations.

As regulatory expectations and investor standards continue to evolve, building strong internal governance systems is no longer optional. It is foundational to credibility, resilience, and long-term growth.

We thank all participants for their active engagement and commitment to strengthening governance practices within their organizations.

Last Tuesday, AmCham Ethiopia had the honor of hosting H.E. Dr. Eyob Tekalign, Governor of the National Bank of Ethiopia, for a high-level Executive Forum with our members at Sheraton Addis, A Luxury Collection Hotel.

We were also privileged to have H.E. Ambassador Ervin Massinga, U.S. Ambassador to Ethiopia, in attendance, reinforcing the importance of continued dialogue and partnership between the public and private sectors.

The session offered valuable insights into Ethiopia’s macroeconomic reforms, the role of the National Bank, and key opportunities for private sector growth.

Our sincere thanks to Dr. Eyob for his openness and engagement, and to Ambassador Massinga and our members for contributing to a thoughtful and forward-looking conversation. These types of engagements are at the heart of what AmCham stands for connecting the business community with policymakers to foster transparency, collaboration, and shared growth.
