CRS participated in the African Risk Capacity (ARC) 16th Conference of the Parties (COP16), held in Addis Ababa from 8–9, 2026, under the theme “Aligning for Sovereignty.” The conference brought together member states from 39 countries to strengthen Africa’s resilience to climate shocks and disasters.

CRS was one of the few humanitarian organizations invited to participate, represented by the CRS Country Representative in recognition of CRS’ extensive resilience and humanitarian work in Ethiopia. Big news: Catholic Relief Services has been accredited by the Green Climate Fund—the world’s largest dedicated climate fund.

What does this mean? CRS can now directly access GCF resources to develop projects to deliver large‑scale, locally led projects that help communities adapt to climate threats like droughts, floods, food insecurity and displacement.

With over 80 years of trusted partnerships and experience on the ground in over 100 countries, CRS works alongside communities to strengthen resilience—from drought‑resistant farming and disaster preparedness to protecting livelihoods and health. This accreditation allows climate financing to move more efficiently to people who are already facing poverty, conflict and environmental stress.

This milestone expands CRS’ ability to respond to climate change at the scale the moment demands—putting resources directly into the hands of communities working to build a safer, more resilient future.
