In Oda Santala (Oromia) and Kubi Jara (Somali), communities that once experienced distance and deep mistrust are beautifully reconnecting. Through the Strengthening Capacity for Peace and Reconciliation Project, implemented by CRS and the Ethiopian Catholic Caritas of Harar, neighbors are bridging divides.

By turning a page and rebuilding relationships, this initiative has revitalized cross-boundary trade, reactivated local value chains, and restored access to essential social services. Families are reuniting, local markets are bustling, and old friendships are thriving once again.

Mohammed Mehamud Ali, who once hesitated to visit Kubi Jara, now travels there freely and has even renewed cherished family ties through marriage alliances. Meanwhile, lifelong friends Beshir Gudal and Hassen Mehadi have put their differences aside, choosing instead to walk side-by-side in harmony.

Yesterday was a deeply meaningful moment for CRS Ethiopia. Ato. Zemede Zewdie, Country Representative, met with His Eminence Cardinal Berhaneyesus Demerew Souraphiel, C.M., Archbishop Emeritus of Addis Ababa, to convey gratitude and warm wishes following his retirement.

The presentation of a beautiful Last Supper icon symbolized service, sacrifice, fellowship, and a mission shared with others. Yet the most powerful part was the conversation behind the gesture.

Cardinal Berhaneyesus spoke not about himself, but about people: children, farmers, vulnerable families, and communities facing hardship, including those affected by the emerging El Niño-driven drought.

Even in retirement, the Cardinal's heart remains with communities in need. His message was one of hope and encouragement: “We are still with you; with prayers, advocacy, relationships, and support. Keep going. Stand with the people.”

For CRS, Cardinal Berhaneyesus has been a trusted friend, advocate, and bridge builder whose support has strengthened our humanitarian and development mission in Ethiopia.

Water is life for people, but it is also life for livestock. In Ethiopia's pastoralist communities, healthy animals mean food, income, security, and a future. Reliable access to clean water reduces the long distances herders must travel in search of water, helping livestock stay healthy and productive even during difficult seasons.

This World Water Week, we celebrate the power of water to sustain livelihoods, strengthen resilience, and support the communities who depend on their animals every day. When water is closer, livestock thrive, and families have greater hope for the future.

Yesterday on World Humanitarian Day, CRS Ethiopia joined the global humanitarian community in Addis to honor those who lost their lives serving others and to stand with those who continue to support people affected by crisis.

This year's global campaign, Act for Humanity, carries a sobering message: "When the worst happens, and lives are at risk, the people who come to help should never be targets."

Together with our partners, we reaffirm our commitment to placing people at the center of humanitarian action by listening to communities, protecting dignity, responding to urgent needs, and supporting recovery and resilience.

For more than 65 years, CRS has stood alongside communities in Ethiopia, delivering life-saving assistance during times of crisis while helping families build stronger, more hopeful futures.

Today, we celebrate Ethiopia’s young people, who live in diverse realities; from urban and rural communities to pastoralist and agropastoral settings, refugee and displaced communities, and areas affected by conflict, climate shocks and other challenges.

Yet, across these different contexts, young people share common aspirations: to learn, to work, to be heard, to live with dignity and to build a better future.

At CRS, we believe young people are not only participants, but partners, innovators, leaders and agents of change. Let us listen to them, work alongside them, invest in their potential and create meaningful opportunities for them to participate and lead 🙌

CRS successfully participated in this year’s phase of the Green Legacy Initiative.

Our participation goes beyond the day’s activities. As an organization dedicated to the 'integral human development' of the communities we serve, environmental stewardship is at the heart of our mission. By rehabilitating watersheds and restoring degraded lands, we are directly supporting the long-term food security, enrich water resources and disaster risk reduction goals of our various programs across CP and agency.

Our chosen theme for this year speaks about the triple impact of our work: Plant tree, plant hope, plant climate resilience.

Thank you to everyone who stepped out into the field to represent CRS. Your hands in the soil today mean more resilient harvests tomorrow!

20 Years of Building Resilient Communities in Ethiopia!

CRS Ethiopia was proud to join Food for the Hungry and World Vision for the RFSA Learning and Close Out Event, celebrating two decades of partnership and investment in food security and resilience through Ethiopia's Productive Safety Net Programme (PSNP).

The event brought together representatives from the Government of Ethiopia, the U.S. Government, development partners, academia, the private sector, community members, and implementing partners to reflect on achievements, share lessons learned, and explore opportunities for future resilience programming.

We were honored to welcome U.S. Ambassador H.E. Ervin Massinga, whose remarks highlighted the enduring partnership between the United States and Ethiopia in advancing food security, resilience, and sustainable development.

Over the past five years, the Resilience Food Security Activities (RFSAs) implemented by CRS, FH, and World Vision have supported vulnerable communities across Amhara, Tigray, and Oromia, helping strengthen livelihoods, improve nutrition and food security, and build resilience to future shocks.

The event featured panel discussions, participant testimonies, learning exchanges, and interactive exhibitions showing innovations, success stories, and the impact achieved together with communities and partners.

As this chapter closes, the lessons, partnerships, and achievements of RFSA will continue to inform future efforts to build stronger, more resilient communities across Ethiopia.

The Journal of Nutrition, one of the world's leading peer-reviewed nutrition science journals, published research evaluating CRS Ethiopia's' Community-led Complementary Feeding and Learning Sessions (CCFLS).

This is a proud milestone for CRS Ethiopia and our partners who have contributed to improving child nutrition and strengthening the evidence base for community-led approaches.

The study demonstrates that children participating in CCFLS had an 89% lower risk of becoming wasted and achieved better dietary diversity using locally available foods.

This achievement is the result of collaboration among CRS technical experts, researchers at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, local partners, community volunteers, caregivers and families. Together, they have generated evidence that can help inform future investments and approaches to combating child malnutrition.

We are proud to see this work recognized on the global stage and grateful to everyone who made it possible.
