Today, we celebrate Ethiopia’s young people, who live in diverse realities; from urban and rural communities to pastoralist and agropastoral settings, refugee and displaced communities, and areas affected by conflict, climate shocks and other challenges.

Yet, across these different contexts, young people share common aspirations: to learn, to work, to be heard, to live with dignity and to build a better future.

At CRS, we believe young people are not only participants, but partners, innovators, leaders and agents of change. Let us listen to them, work alongside them, invest in their potential and create meaningful opportunities for them to participate and lead 🙌

CRS successfully participated in this year’s phase of the Green Legacy Initiative.

Our participation goes beyond the day’s activities. As an organization dedicated to the 'integral human development' of the communities we serve, environmental stewardship is at the heart of our mission. By rehabilitating watersheds and restoring degraded lands, we are directly supporting the long-term food security, enrich water resources and disaster risk reduction goals of our various programs across CP and agency.

Our chosen theme for this year speaks about the triple impact of our work: Plant tree, plant hope, plant climate resilience.

Thank you to everyone who stepped out into the field to represent CRS. Your hands in the soil today mean more resilient harvests tomorrow!

20 Years of Building Resilient Communities in Ethiopia!

CRS Ethiopia was proud to join Food for the Hungry and World Vision for the RFSA Learning and Close Out Event, celebrating two decades of partnership and investment in food security and resilience through Ethiopia's Productive Safety Net Programme (PSNP).

The event brought together representatives from the Government of Ethiopia, the U.S. Government, development partners, academia, the private sector, community members, and implementing partners to reflect on achievements, share lessons learned, and explore opportunities for future resilience programming.

We were honored to welcome U.S. Ambassador H.E. Ervin Massinga, whose remarks highlighted the enduring partnership between the United States and Ethiopia in advancing food security, resilience, and sustainable development.

Over the past five years, the Resilience Food Security Activities (RFSAs) implemented by CRS, FH, and World Vision have supported vulnerable communities across Amhara, Tigray, and Oromia, helping strengthen livelihoods, improve nutrition and food security, and build resilience to future shocks.

The event featured panel discussions, participant testimonies, learning exchanges, and interactive exhibitions showing innovations, success stories, and the impact achieved together with communities and partners.

As this chapter closes, the lessons, partnerships, and achievements of RFSA will continue to inform future efforts to build stronger, more resilient communities across Ethiopia.

The Journal of Nutrition, one of the world's leading peer-reviewed nutrition science journals, published research evaluating CRS Ethiopia's' Community-led Complementary Feeding and Learning Sessions (CCFLS).

This is a proud milestone for CRS Ethiopia and our partners who have contributed to improving child nutrition and strengthening the evidence base for community-led approaches.

The study demonstrates that children participating in CCFLS had an 89% lower risk of becoming wasted and achieved better dietary diversity using locally available foods.

This achievement is the result of collaboration among CRS technical experts, researchers at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, local partners, community volunteers, caregivers and families. Together, they have generated evidence that can help inform future investments and approaches to combating child malnutrition.

We are proud to see this work recognized on the global stage and grateful to everyone who made it possible.

At Kaleb Eyasu Farm, a seed enterprise supported through the CRS Ethiopia Seed Activity, high-quality improved mung bean seed multiplication is underway. As the first of its kind in South Ethiopia to produce certified mung bean seed, the enterprise is helping make improved seed available to smallholder farmers while inspiring others to engage in quality seed production.

Through collaboration with private seed-producing enterprises and farmers’ cooperative unions, CRS Ethiopia is helping expand the production of improved seeds and quality forage, enabling more farmers to access certified seeds and quality forage, increase productivity, strengthen food security, and build more resilient livelihoods.

Quality seed and forage today. Better harvests tomorrow. Stronger farming communities for the future. 🌱

CRS was happy to join U.S. Ambassador Ervin Massinga, our Joint Emergency Operation (JEOP) partner REST, the Adigrat Diocese Catholic Secretariat (ADCS), and other stakeholders during a humanitarian engagement in Tigray, including a visit to the Maywoni IDP Center in Mekelle, where food assistance through JEOP is helping displaced families meet their most urgent needs.

The visit offered an important opportunity to hear directly from internally displaced people, witness their resilience, and engage in meaningful dialogue with community and faith leaders, including His Grace Bishop Tesfaselassie Medhin, on the evolving humanitarian situation, community priorities, and the importance of sustained partnership to advance recovery, resilience, and lasting hope.

CRS, in partnership with Melkasa Agricultural Research Center, is promoting locally sourced, and high-value fruit varieties to improve communities’ livelihoods in East Hararghe Zone, nine woredas. Since 2024, 900,700 quality fruit seedlings have been distributed to 36,000 farmers, including: Five avocado varieties, Tissue-culture banana, Solo papaya, and Mango.

The varieties were selected based on research recommendations, farmer preferences, and local agroecological conditions. The varieties are early maturing, high yielding, marketable, and tolerant to drought and diseases.

Through strong research farmer linkages with private sector, awareness creation, and the establishment of eight nursery sites for scion sources, farmers now have sustainable access to authenticated, high-quality fruit seeds.

A simple color-coded Mid-Upper Arm Circumference (MUAC) tape is transforming child nutrition in Degua Tembiyen, Tigray. Once struggling to recognize malnutrition in her child, Tsehaynesh is now screening children, referring cases early, and inspiring other mothers to do the same. Through the Family MUAC approach, caregivers are becoming the first line of defense against malnutrition, ensuring that more children are identified and treated before it's too late.
