Vision Community Development Association (VoCDA) is an Ethiopian Residents Charity
Organizations, which is engaged in the promotion of people’s self development
focusing on rural

and semi-urban poor community who are the most vulnerable to the
problems of under development in Urban and rural areas. VoCDA has been established
in 2013, in line with FDRE Charities and Societies Proclamation number 621/2009 and
reregistered being the Ethiopian resident charity as per the new law. Major Objectives of VoCDA
As stipulated in its byelaw the following are the major objectives of the VoCDA;

1) To ensure that vulnerable households secure sustainable livelihood

2) To ensure that local level community institutions are able to adopt
sustainable natural resources use and management
3) To ensure that vulnerable groups (women, girls, children, youths and elders)
are economically and socially empowered that enable them to bring equity
and equality at household, community and national level. Governance
The General Assembly is the highest governing body of VoCDA whereas the Board of
Directors provides overall guidance and direction to the Secretariat, which is being led
by a Director that runs the day to day activities of the office. Vision

Kebele level ritual law development ceremony

The ritual law development process was begun through community discussions and drafting ritual laws through full community representatives at their respective kebeles. The ritual law development was meant to serve as part of the government laws to protect and conserve the locality natural resources. In this ceremony abba-gada of Sikko mando, Waayyu shanaan, 2-kebeles abba-gada and hadha-siinqee of two kebeles, community of two kebeles, vocda staffs, government officials from different government offices and donor representatives and other participated.

The aid of the ceremony was to officially decree (announce) the laws developed through discussions at each kebele levels to the mass at large and to make the people aware of the ritual laws developed. Accordingly different speeches made and oaths also made by the community’s clan representatives at their kebeles. Clans/community determined to fight against any irregular and improper actions against natural resources degradations.

Discussion with Abbaa Gadaa and Haadha Siinqee at Woreda level

At woreda level one day preliminary discussions were undertaken at Batu town for consensus development purposes. In this workshop, two kebele abba-Gada and hadha-sinqee were present and discussed, agreeing to make one draft of laws developed by the two kebles for suitable environmental protection at their kebeles and neighboring kebeles. Accordingly, they have developed one ritual law for the locality community. In this day’s workshop abba-Gada of Sikko Mando, who come from Siraroo areas shared their experiences with the representative. In the same manner aabba-Gada of Waayyu-shanaan also participated and shared their experiences with the kebele’s level abba-Gadas and help the kebeles abba-Gadas to refine and develop their bylaws properly.
