The ECHO Autism Ethiopia program was officially launched on March 13/2026 by Ali Birra Foundation in collaboration with partner institutions, marking an important step toward strengthening support for children with autism and other neurodevelopmental disorders in Ethiopia.

The launch event successfully brought together a diverse assembly of professionals, including university leaders, hospital representatives, members of Ali Birra foundation board and officials from Oromia Health Bureau, including Dr. Tesfaye Kebebew, the Deputy Health Head of Oromia Health Bureau.

The aim was to establish a collaborative network to enhance autism care, guided by “ , ” model. This program will create a platform where multidisciplinary professionals can share knowledge, discuss cases and learn from one another.

The first cohort of ECHO Autism Ethiopia will begin on March 27, bringing together experts from different fields to work collectively toward better care and improved quality of life for children with autism and their families.

The Ali Birra Foundation is proud to announce the establishment of ECHO-Autism Ethiopia.

This pioneering program aims to create a national Hub under the globally recognized Project ECHO model, bringing together mental health professionals, pediatricians, educators, therapists, and families to engage in structured case-based discussions and shared learning.

Through this collaborative platform, participants will exchange practical experiences, strengthen local capacity, and promote evidence-informed approaches to the management of Autism and other neurodevelopmental disabilities.
Guided by the core principle of “All Teach, All Learn,” ECHO-Autism Ethiopia seeks to democratize specialized knowledge, ensuring that expertise is not confined to major urban centers but is equitably shared across regions. By fostering a multidisciplinary learning community, the program aspires to improve early identification, enhance intervention quality, and ultimately elevate the quality of life for children and families affected by Autism and related conditions throughout Ethiopia.

The program will officially launch its inaugural cohort on March 27, 2026. Prior to this, a Launching Ceremony and Stakeholder Consultation Forum will be held on March 13, 2026, convening key stakeholders from Ethiopia and international partners.

The stakeholder forum will serve as a platform to:
• Strengthen national and international collaborations
• Align efforts with existing health and education systems
• Identify priority areas for research, training, and service delivery
• Mobilize sustainable partnerships to expand access to care
