🎉 Updates from Abe Dongoro Woreda 📚✨

Through our Education in Emergency (EiE) project supported by UNICEF / Education Cannot Wait (ECW), Gurmuu Development Association recently hosted two key events:

🎓 ALP Graduation: Conflict-affected children at Dongoro, Gararo, and Tulu Moti primary schools completed their compressed curriculum, overcoming past disruptions to rejoin their educational journey.

🤝 Quarterly Review Session: School directors, facilitators, and community leaders from Dongoro, Wando, and Gararo primary schools met to review project progress, share best teaching practices, and recognize outstanding educators.

This week, Gurmuu Development Association (GURMUU) has been conducting a Back-to-School Campaign, encouraging all children including girls, children with disabilities, and conflict-affected children to return to school and continue their education.

🤝 Child Protection Project Handover – Wayu Tuka District, East Wollega Zone

Gurmuu Development Association (Gurmuu) successfully handed over key Child Protection interventions, including Child-Friendly Spaces (CFS), Child Protection Case Management (CP CM), MHPSS, and other related services.

🙏 Our heartfelt appreciation goes to UNICEF and the back donor FCDO for their continued partnership and support.

📍 West Wollega Zone | CPiE Project Exit & Handover Update

Following the completion of our Child Protection in Emergencies (CPiE) project in West Wollega Zone, Gurmuu Development Association successfully conducted official project handover operations the past week! 🤝

To ensure long-term community sustainability, our implemented activities were presented to key stakeholders to guarantee ongoing support for:

🔹 Community Awareness: Raising awareness on child protection issues.
🔹 Psychosocial Support (MHPSS): Providing ongoing emotional care for vulnerable children.
🔹 Community & Resource Mobilization: Activating local networks to support affected children.
🔹 School 'Social Corners': Strengthening and utilizing established support corners in schools.
🔹 Case Management (CM): Supporting active conflict-affected cases and providing orientation on CM tools, consent forms, and focal handovers.

🏆 Zonal Exit Strategy & Recognition

August 28, 2026 marked the final day of project closure. In collaboration with our partner, ASDEPO, we concluded the process with a general briefing on the project exit strategy at the zonal level.

We are truly honored that the West Wollega Zone Women and Children Affairs Office and the Gimbi District Office recognized our work, presenting our team with Certificates of Appreciation in the presence of the Gimbi District Administrator and Zonal Administrator focal! 📜✨
