📢 Strengthening Partnerships for Better FP & SRHR Outcomes
With financial support from Spanish cooperation and UUNFPA Ethiopia CORHA convened a high-level national advocacy forum on integrated Family Planning (FP) and Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR).
The forum brought together religious leaders from Christian and Muslim faiths from the Afar and Somali regions, representatives from the Ministry of Health and regional health bureaus, youth councils, and civil society organizations working on FP and SRHR.
Discussions highlighted the importance of respecting religious teachings and cultural values while delivering accurate health information. Religious leaders emphasized that there are no religious restrictions on family planning, noting that teachings such as breastfeeding for at least two years are aligned with child and maternal health.
The forum also shared successful international and local experiences, including collaboration with faith-based organizations in countries like Indonesia, Iran, and Egypt, and the development of a supportive "Fatwa" through engagement with Muslim communities.
🤝 By using a community-centered ecological approach—bringing together youth, religious leaders, government, and civil society—CORHA continues to promote inclusive and sustainable FP and SRHR advocacy.
