OWDA and IGAD together with National and Regional Government Authorities have launched Lot 1 IGAD Regional Migration Fund (RMF) project. The project is Funded by the German Government through KfW Development Bank, and is implementing IGAD in partnership with OWDA to support inclusive and sustainable development of basic services in Tog-Wajale City and the surrounding cross-border communities.
The project is designed to complement ongoing government efforts by improving socio-economic infrastructure and expanding access to essential community services. Key interventions include the construction of a Community Development Center, establishment of a skills training center, development of recreation and sports facilities, and creation of social and community gathering spaces. These interventions aim to strengthen local infrastructure, improve livelihood opportunities, promote social cohesion, and enhance resilience among host communities, migrants, refugees, women, and youth.
In addition, the project will support other strategic socio-economic investments, such as market center development and water supply improvements, reflecting a strong shared commitment to sustainable development, community empowerment, peaceful coexistence, and regional stability through inclusive participation and partnership.

OWDA and WFP have co-organized a colorful inauguration ceremony for Solar-Powered Irrigation Scheme in Cilaan village, Gode Woreda, Somali Region. The irrigation scheme, under IFTIIN Project โ€“ Climate-Proofing Food Security in Ethiopiaโ€™s Lowland Areas, is funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) through KfW Development Bank, and implemented by WFP in partnership with OWDA. This is a significant milestone for the farmers and agro-pastoralists in Cilaan area. The irrigation scheme is expected to increase agricultural productivity and household income, improve food security, and contribute to long-term, sustainable development.
This achievement reflects the power of strong partnership, community engagement, and resilience-building efforts. Through integrated interventionsโ€”including irrigation development, water infrastructure, livestock services, financial inclusion, and market supportโ€”the project is set to transform livelihoods, improve food security, and strengthen climate resilience for thousands of households in Gode, Adadle and east Imay Woredas.

OWDA with RESDO, a sub implementing partner, and with funding from Ethiopian Humanitarian Fund, has distributed Emergency Shelter and Non-Food Items (ES/NFI) to a total of 1,775 households, including 266 households with persons with disabilities (PWDs) in Hudet Woreda, Dawa zone.
These households live in temporary IDP camps after being recently displaced in ethnic conflict between Somali and Oromo communities. Before this assistance, these households were living in a dire condition without proper shelter as they fled all their belongings behind.
This support has enabled the households improve their living conditions, protect themselves from harsh weather, and restore a sense of normalcy in their daily lives. It also plays a critical role in improving dignity and protection for the vulnerable people, particularly women and girls.
This Emergency shelter and NFI is a part of integrated assistance which includes primary healthcare, nutrition, WASH, protection and multi-purpose cash that OWDA provides to the displaced communities, reaching a total of 51,635 individuals.
