🌳 Where would you plant a tree to create more shade during summer? The answer might seem: plant it where temperatures are highest.
But who is most exposed? Who is most vulnerable? Where do people walk, wait, gather and spend time throughout the day? Which solutions fit the realities of the neighbourhood?
These questions guided a recent workshop with the City Council of Vitoria-Gasteiz and local stakeholders as part of our project exploring equitable strategies for reducing urban heat risks in Lakua, Zabalgana and Salburua.
By combining scientific evidence, local expertise and lived experience, we aim to support climate adaptation strategies that are not only effective, but also feasible and socially just.
