1) RESCUE of animals in danger -Rescatando animales en peligro

To allow us to do this effectively we need to raise money. We do this by holding events and selling items in our shop. In 2012 we completed work on our new Adopti

Five tiny puppies are safe with us at SCAN, after being found abandoned in the orange groves nearby, on one of the hottest days of the year. Left alone.

The local police brought them to us a few weeks ago: four skinny little girls and one small boy, all black and white, all urgently needing food, care and safety. We took them in immediately, and they are now being fed regularly, checked by our vets and given the support they need to grow stronger every day.

Sadly, these are not the first unwanted puppies to arrive at SCAN, and they will not be the last. That is why our message is simple: please talk to us before things reach crisis point. We want to work with owners and families to reduce the risk to mother dogs and puppies, and to help find safer, kinder options before abandonment happens.

Can you help these puppies take their next steps?

1. Help us name these five cheeky, adorable pups. Please comment below with one male and one female name suggestion, and we will put our favourites to a volunteer poll next week.

LIZZIE DESERVES A HOME!
Not a return to the shelter 💔

After everything she’s been through — surviving on the streets and being used for breeding — Lizzie finally got to know the safety and comfort of a home. Now, through no fault of her own, she may lose that again. We have no judgement on that, we just want to focus on finding a new home for Lizzie.

Lizzie is a gentle, shy girl who would love a quiet home and, ideally, another kind dog to help her feel safe. She loves peaceful walks, pottering in the garden, and simply being somewhere calm and secure. She can be timid and wary of new people and men, given her background; but she could also be the most gentle companion.

Please help us find Lizzie a foster or forever home so she doesn’t have to go back to the shelter.

🐾 WHY HASN'T ANYONE CHOSEN FRED? 🐾

We honestly don't understand.

Fred has spent more than 6 months waiting at the SCAN Shelter in El Verger, watching other dogs leave while he stays behind.

He's still just a young boy with his whole life ahead of him.

Everyone who meets Fred falls in love with him. The volunteers adore him. He is friendly, gentle, affectionate, and one of the easiest dogs to spend time with.

❤️ Loves people

❤️ Loves other dogs (especially the ladies!)

❤️ Loves walks and adventures

❤️ Loves his food and his comfy bed

❤️ Loves life

But what Fred wants more than anything is a family of his own.

At around 25kg, Fred is the perfect size for someone looking for a loyal companion to share beach walks, countryside adventures, lazy afternoons, and everyday life.

Every evening he returns to his kennel and waits for another day.

Another day hoping somebody will finally choose him.

🐾 Sylvester is such a special boy, and it’s impossible not to fall for him. He is loving, affectionate, sociable and full of joy — the kind of dog who brings warmth and happiness wherever he goes. Seeing how beautifully his sister Lexi has settled into her new home in Orba only shows just how wonderful Sylvester truly is. 💛

Sylvester has so much love waiting to give. He loves people, enjoys the company of other dogs, adores his food, and is always happy to head out for a good walk. He has all the qualities anyone could wish for in a companion, and yet he is still spending his days in the shelter, waiting for somebody to choose him. 💔

Dogs like Sylvester should not be growing old behind shelter walls. He deserves a soft bed, loving arms, daily walks, and the safety of a home where he can finally relax and belong. He really is the perfect package, and he needs to be out of the shelter and into the life he deserves. 🏡

If you have room in your heart and home for a dog who will give back every bit of love and more, please think about Sylvester. He is ready to be someone’s whole world — now he just needs someone to give him that chance. 💛

🐾 Sweet Lexi has officially left the shelter and started her new life with her loving family in Orba 💛 — and their words say it all: they already can’t imagine life without her. 🏡

She settled in almost straight away and has been an absolute joy.

✨ At home, she’s nearly perfect, with the occasional happy zoomie, and she adores her family, her cosy bed, and of course, her food! 🐶🛏️🍽️

Her new family are helping her enjoy everything life has to offer — meeting people, making doggy friends, going on lovely long walks, and even visiting the local bar where she gets a biscuit from the landlord. 🐕🌿🍪 She’s sociable, trusting, and taking every new experience in her stride. We are so proud of Lexi. ❤️

And here is the part that truly tugs at the heart: Lexi’s brother, Sylvester, is still waiting at SCAN for his forever home. 💔 The two lived together before coming to the shelter, and in so many ways Sylvester is just like Lexi — the same lovely nature, the same potential, the same chance to make a family incredibly happy. 🐾

Seeing how beautifully Lexi has settled in is a wonderful reminder of just how much love Sylvester has waiting to give. 🏡
