for March 2023: I’m celebrating a personal milestone having submitted our first major funding bid, which was a major undertaking for me involving programming, research, match funding applications and meetings, coordinating 5 concert venue partners and 12 primary school partners, and much more. I have specific learning difficulties that make many of these tasks extremely challenging for me, and it takes me much longer to complete them. I have spent well over 60 hours on this application over 6 months, and could not have completed it without the support and contribution of and others who read drafts and advised. The crazy thing is, I now have a 9 week wait ahead of me and it’s far from guaranteed that they will award us the money.
This is the unseen reality of our life in the arts - hours and hours of preparation, usually unpaid, for the opportunity (TBC) to bring our art to you. For me, this milestone is as significant as any concert performance, and has taken many more hours of work and dedication, even if nothing comes of it.
