🌊 Celebrating Unsung Pioneers!

On the third day of the International Submarine Symposium, we celebrated Illya Shtirkov, Director of the Institute of Oceanology at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences — a pioneer in manned submersible operations.

For over 27 years, he has piloted and maintained Bulgaria’s only research submersible, the PC8B, built in the 1970s, leading countless underwater studies in the Black Sea.

To honor his lifelong dedication, William Kohnen and Scott Waters presented him with a Lifetime Achievement Award, a moment made even more meaningful by the presence of his wife. 💙

Recognizing pioneers like Mr. Shtirkov reminds us how dedication and passion keep our industry moving forward.
