Harghita, European Region of Gastronomy 2027, continues to show its dedication to promoting sustainable tourism via initiatives that bring together stakeholders from all over the region. Visit Harghita

Harghita’s work in encouraging collaboration among producers was recognized in IGCAT’s World Food Gift Challenge, during which the region received the award for “Best Community Collaboration” for the product Flavours of the Forest, created by the local initiative Helyénvaló Helyi.

Harghita also continues to show commitment to involving young minds via projects such as the “Hack the Taste” gastronomy and tourism hackathon. Harghita also launched the Signature Dish initiative and the Myrmidone Certification program, both meant to promote traditional and sustainable cuisine.

Each year on 18 June, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations celebrates Sustainable Gastronomy Day to raise awareness of healthy diets and promote food security.

Sustainable Gastronomy Day encourages producers to be more careful about how natural resources are used and consumers to be more cautious about the food they buy.

At IGCAT, together with the European and World Regions of Gastronomy, we are committed to promoting local, sustainable gastronomy. Harghita, for example, hosts a yearly event titled “Shepherd’s Day in Harghita,” where local shepherds are invited to highlight their farming traditions.

On this Sustainable Gastronomy Day, we at IGCAT encourage all to eat healthy, buy organic products, revive food traditions, and support their local producers. Together, we can use gastronomy as a tool to promote a healthier, greener future.
