“Beyond the Call of Duty: Journalist risk lives to tell humanitarian story“
A team of reporters from South Sudan boards a canoe which they use to access an Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camp where the international humanitarian organization - was distributing food to people affected by conflict.

Due to poor road network and flooding in South Sudan, accessibility is a major problem in South Sudan. But a team of journalists from Ruthilla Digital, a private media company that reports on humanitarian activities in South Sudan, went beyond a call of duty, putting their lives in danger to bring this story to life.

The floodwaters are infested with crocodiles and snakes. The photo tells a story of dedication and the danger journalists to bringing stories that matters to the people.

Phanuel NDEKEZI has successfully completed Kalu Institute’s Master’s in International Cooperation and Humanitarian Aid and has now received his official Master’s documentation in physical format, duly notarized and apostilled under The Hague Apostille Convention.

Kalu Institute has an academic agreement with UNAC (University of the Américas and the Caribbean, Mexico), an accredited university listed in the UNESCO WHED database. Under this agreement, students who successfully complete the Master’s programme receive a joint professional certificate issued by UNAC and Kalu Institute.

“Teamwork”

In 2024, floods devastated nearly half of Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State, a city already recovering from deadly attacks by the Boko Haram terrorist organization.

The World Food Programme (WFP) responded by launching a cooked-meal assistance initiative to address malnutrition and the risk of food insecurity, as many of the city’s food markets remained affected by flooding, limiting access to food.

Many displacement centers became overcrowded, further increasing humanitarian needs. In response, WFP and local NGOs coordinated food assistance efforts to support affected communities.

Access to some areas was also restricted due to insecurity and flood-related disruptions, requiring critical food supplies to be delivered by helicopter.
