𝘾𝙤𝙨𝙩𝙖𝙡𝙚𝙧𝙤𝙨 𝙍𝙚𝙦𝙪𝙞𝙧𝙚𝙙

The parades, held each year during Easter Week (Semana Santa), are the most important events of the year for most towns and villages in Spain and Pilar de la Horadada is no exception. For the past 17 years a group from Campoverde, along with one or two from Torre, have carried a small float in the parades. Not only have we taken part in the parades but we have the huge honour each year of leading them. As far as I know there are just 3 Cofradias, (the name given to the group of people that carry a float), that are made up of international residents - so we are truly honoured and accepted by the people of our home town.
We constantly need new people to carry the float to replace those Costaleros that are unavailable through illness, holidays or have returned to their native country.
This year is no exception and with the longer carrying arms on the new float we can now accommodate an extra four Costaleros.
It is also customary for a group of associated women to walk infront of the float and we are looking for volunteers for that position.
It is important to note that although Holy Week is a religious celebration, there is no expectation that Costaleros are themselves religious. This is very much about having the privilege to take part in events that are very important to our Spanish friends & neighbours and to our local community.

+ Practice carrying the float Monday 23 March
and Thursday 26 March
+ Parade Campoverde Monday 30 March
+ Parade Pilar de la Horadada Good Friday 3 April

Please note that the float is not heavy; and to be a Costalero you do not have to practice any religion.
