Congrats, !! 🏰💚🇵🇹

When we launched the LIFE Programme project, we never imagined that 4 years later two of three cities around our partnership area (2024, - Paterna; 2026, - Brito) would be awarded as European Green Capital 💚 And the third one, , being a Smart City and an innovation pole in .

Coincidence or not, there must be a bit of “ effect” in the air… 😁 It’s inspiring to see how joint work, industry innovation, and sustainable water, energy and environmental management leave a mark far beyond technical results. These cities don’t just move forward; they lead by example.
We keep learning from them and celebrating that when you nurture green, it grows 🇪🇺🇪🇸🇵🇹

📣Join the "Industrial Urban Symbiosis in Practice: Lessons from four EcoSites" webinar!

♻️The paradigm is shifting from waste management to resource management, opening up new opportunities to connect value chains, processes, and actors across and within regions. This transition unlocks significant economic, social, and environmental potential by linking energy, wastewater, and resource flows into new systems of circular value.

👉However, achieving this level of resource productivity and integration is far from simple. Industrial Urban Symbiosis (I-US) introduces new technological, organizational, and governance challenges that must be tailored to local contexts.

🗣️Join our SYMSITES Replication Webinar to explore how four state-of-the-art EcoSites in Spain, Denmark, Greece, and Austria are putting Industrial Urban Symbiosis into action.

We’re keeping our drinking water safe. 💧

From today, EU countries must monitor PFAS levels in drinking water!

PFAS are long-lasting chemicals that can be harmful to health, if levels are too high.

If that happens, authorities must act - by cleaning the water, closing polluted wells or warning people - until the water is safe again.

Because everyone deserves access to safe drinking water.

⚠ Today, a new EU regulation to prevent microplastic pollution enters into force!

These new rules target pollution from plastic pellets, marking a major step in the EU’s work to reduce microplastic emissions at their source.

Why is this important?

🔹Plastic pellets – the raw material for most plastic products – are a significant source of microplastic pollution.

🔹In 2019, an estimated 52,140 to 184,290 tonnes of pellets were lost into the environment across the EU.

🔹Once released, pellets do not biodegrade but instead disperse across soils, rivers and oceans, posing serious risks to ecosystems and potentially to human health.

The new rules apply to all economic operators managing installations in the EU that handle five tonnes or more of plastic pellets per year.

Water is no longer an infinite resource, and we are determined to protect it.

As co-organisers of the first EU Water Resilience Forum, together with the European Commission and the European Committee of the Regions, we brought together everyone working on Europe’s water challenges to share ideas and solutions for its protection.

At the Forum:
💧 we launched the new Water Resilience Stakeholder Platform to turn ideas into action;
💧 we reaffirmed our commitment to the EU Blue Deal, our cross-sectoral water strategy that helped raise water to the top of the EU agenda.

Fair access to water is a matter of justice. Together, we can make real progress possible.
