An Invitation to Know Your International Faculty: Vincentia S. Schroeter (Emeritus Faculty Member)

As we conclude our 1st series about 6 International Faculty Members of the IIBA, we look to one of our Emeritus Faculty Members to remind us of the lifelong rewards of a bioenergetic path.

Vincentia S. Schroeter, PhD, became a Certified Bioenergetic Therapist in 1980 and joined the International Faculty in 2000.

Throughout her decades of service, Vincentia recognized a vital need within our community: a clear, methodical collection of somatic tools. To fulfill this, she co-authored Bend Into Shape (2011), a comprehensive textbook widely used in international training programs and translated into Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, and Chinese. She also served as the dedicated chief editor of the IIBA Clinical Journal for ten years.

Though she closed her clinical practice in 2017, Vincentia remains deeply active in online supervision and writing, publishing reflective works like Tilt (2021) on finding balance during difficult times, and her recent 2025 memoir, Babymaking.

Vincentia shares: “One of the great pleasures of being on the faculty has been my exposure to different cultures... I wish everyone in the organization, both new and old, the joy and fulfillment I have felt in the Bioenergetic world.”

Vincentia’s legacy reminds us that when we anchor ourselves in neuroscience, energy, and relational warmth, we create a beautiful space for others to grow.

An Invitation to Know Your International Faculty: Odila Weigand

"Healing happens when we are introduced to our own vulnerabilities within an atmosphere of complete acceptance."

This beautiful insight reflects the 30-year journey of Odila Weigand, PhD. Based in private practice in São Paulo, Brazil, Odila is an International Trainer since 2006.

Odila participated in Brazil’s very first Bioenergetic Analysis training in 1981, during an era when training was built on intensive five-day workshops led by visiting faculty. Seeking to deepen her roots, she traveled to the United States to study directly with Dr. Alexander Lowen in New York.

In 1989, she attended a workshop on negativity led by Bennett Shapiro. Odila recalls this as a watershed moment in her life: the first time she was gently guided to face her own defensive, negative aspects within a space that felt entirely safe, respectful, and accepting. This profound experience inspired her later to integrate spiritual aspects of psychotherapy by training in Core Energetics with John Pierrakos, Lowen's original partner.

Fluently speaking English, French, and Portuguese, and author of Grounding e Autonomia, Odila embodies the gentle courage it takes to look inward without judgment.

An Invitation to Know Your International Faculty: Margit Koemeda-Lutz

Margit has been an IIBA International Faculty member since 2005, living near the beautiful Lake Constance. She joined the Swiss Society back in 1986 and served as a coordinating trainer for over two decades.

Behind her teaching lies a quiet story of incredible persistence. Margit and her colleagues spent several years striving for official governmental accreditation in Switzerland. They celebrated a major milestone in 2019 when their trainees were officially awarded state licenses as body psychotherapists upon graduation. Just recently, the Swiss Health Department awarded them their official 7-year renewal: a profound milestone ensuring long-term stability and relief for future students of Bioenergetic Analysis.

Presently, Margit and her colleague Thomas Fellmann are methodically gathering a new, supportive training group in Switzerland.

An Invitation to Know Your International Faculty: Louise Fréchette

True stability is built methodically over time. Louise Fréchette’s long and rich career is a testament to the power of gentle, steady professional development.

Beginning her path in 1971 as a college guidance counselor in Montreal, Canada, Louise quickly realized her heart lay in supporting people through their deepest personal challenges, not just their career decisions. After earning her master’s degree in psychology in 1976, she completed over 500 hours of psychosynthesis training, before finding her true home in Bioenergetic Analysis.

Louise entered a rigorous six-year training program consisting of more than 800 hours of study, including personal workshops with Dr. Alexander Lowen, becoming a Certified Bioenergetic Therapist (CBT) in 1982.

Always a dedicated learner, she expanded her skills with over 200 hours in classical and Ericksonian hypnosis, NLP, and post-traumatic intervention. Certified as an International Trainer in 1992, Louise has shared her embodied wisdom across Canada, the US, Europe, and South America, serving as Director of Training in both Quebec and Spain.

Louise’s journey reminds us that grounding ourselves thoroughly in our craft allows us to become a steady anchor for others.

An Invitation to Know Your International Faculty: Guy Tonella

Many professionals enter Bioenergetic Analysis because they feel something fundamental is missing when therapy remains entirely intellectual.

This was the experience of Guy Tonella, an IIBA International Trainer since 1992 based in Toulouse, France. Originally trained in traditional psychoanalysis, Guy observed that patients could remain in talk therapy for years with very little actual change in their lives.

His search for a deeper path led him to the writings of Wilhelm Reich and eventually to a five-day workshop in France with Dr. Alexander Lowen. To truly understand this work, Guy traveled to New York for personal therapy with Lowen and Ed Svasta, later continuing with Bob Lewis. He completed his doctorate in Clinical Psychology and taught at the university level before dedicating his life to international training.

Fluent in English, French, Spanish, and Portuguese, Guy has taught across Europe, Latin America, China, and New Zealand. He is a pioneer in attachment and preverbal issues and created the ESMER model, a framework mapping how the Self functions as a complex, self-regulating biological and social system.

Guy’s path reminds us that true therapeutic integration honors both clinical precision and the living reality of the body.

An Invitation to Know Your International Faculty: Garet Bedorisan

"Profound change occurs when people reconnect with themselves, their bodies, and their capacity for meaningful connection." — Garet Bedrosian

For our first profile in our Invitation to Know Your International Faculty series, we introduce Garet Bedrosian, the current President of the IIBA.

Garet’s path into Bioenergetic Analysis emerged from a profound, personal desire to understand how true healing happens through the body and authentic relationships. Certified as a Bioenergetic Therapist in 2000, she dedicated years to steady growth, becoming a Local Trainer in 2005 and an International Trainer in 2015.

Based in California, Garet weaves her deep somatic roots into an integrative practice that includes psychotherapy, Imago Relationship Therapy, and Equus Coaching—where horses offer gentle, nonverbal, relational feedback to help individuals uncover deeper patterns of connection. Her cross-cultural heart has also led her to facilitate public workshops and support trainees across China.

For Garet, serving the IIBA is a meaningful responsibility rooted in stability and growth. Her focus is on preserving the powerful, traditional core of Bioenergetics while ensuring it remains a living, evolving, and deeply relational practice for generations to come.

🌿 We invite you to read Garet’s full story and connect with our global network:

An Invitation to Know Your International Faculty

Linda S. Hines, Co-Editor of our IIBA Newsletter, recently interviewed several members of our International Faculty. She discovered stories not of instant perfection, but of rich humanity, dedicated persistence, and deep vulnerability.

Many came to Bioenergetic Analysis through their own personal search for healing, or from a dissatisfaction with traditional therapies that remained solely intellectual, leaving the body and spirit behind.

Over the coming weeks, we gently invite you to walk alongside us as we share the first 6-part series introducing International Faculty Members of the IIBA. You will discover a diverse global community spanning cultures, languages, and histories, all anchored by a shared commitment to helping others safely reconnect with somatic aliveness through Bioenergetic Analysis.

Healing does not occur because we become extraordinary; it occurs because we become more real. We learn to tolerate our humanity and become more grounded, open-hearted, and authentic.

We invite you to read, reflect, and get to know the hearts behind our global organization at your own natural pace.
