Charity Walk Raises Nearly €3,000 for PAWS-PATAS and MACS

On Saturday May 16th 65 people gathered on Mojacar seafront to walk a 5km route and raise money for the charities PAWS-PATAS and MACS. Thanks to walkers and donations from local businesses and residents, €2,810 was raised, which has been split equally between the two charities.
Organizer Alex Radford from My Lawyer in Spain commented, “It was a wonderful morning and a really special event. The weather was on our side and we had a great turnout with lots of people walking and talking. Thanks to all the participants and collaborating businesses for their support. Next year we’ll be back with a bigger and better event and a longer route.”
A total of eight local businesses sponsored and supported the event – My Lawyer in Spain, Currencies Direct, Tim Taplin Financial Services, Spanish Property Choice, Ibex Insurance, Coastal Properties, Indalo Transport and Storage, Macenas Resort and Tito’s Beach Bar. These community-minded businesses all promoted the event, sold tickets and attended on the day to chat, stroll and raise funds and awareness for two excellent causes.
The charities are delighted with the event and will ensure the donations are put to excellent use.
Martine Shindler from PAWS-PATAS commented, “On behalf of all at PAWS-PATAS, including our furry friends, we’d like to thank everyone who organized the event and took part in the walk, your support truly means the world to us and helps us continue the essential work we do, rescuing, saving and caring for animals. The costs of running the shelter are a little over €13,000 per month, so donations like these are vital.
Sadly, the number of animals abandoned in this area is increasing and PAWS-PATAS desperately needs to build more kennels and a quarantined block for the Cattery. At the end of 2025, we purchased a piece of land adjacent to the current shelter and now the fundraising to build and develop this land begins in earnest. That is why fundraising events, such as the Walk & Talk, amongst many others, is crucial for us to continue to care for our “furry family” currently with us, as well as being able to help even more.”
Shannon K Edwards, MACS Cancer Support Foundation agrees that funds from events like these are vital to continuing their work. “Every donation and fundraising event helps us continue providing compassionate support and essential services to patients and families when they need it most and ensuring that nobody faces cancer alone. We are extremely grateful to My Lawyer in Spain and all involved in organising the Walk & Talk event for supporting our charity and helping us make a difference within the community.
Our aim is to provide practical, emotional, and financial support to those affected by cancer, helping to ease some of the difficulties that come with diagnosis and treatment. We work closely with hospitals, healthcare professionals, patients, and families to ensure nobody feels alone during their cancer journey.
MACS is funded entirely through donations, fundraising events, charity shop sales, sponsorships, and the generosity of local businesses and the community. We do not receive government funding, so community support is essential in allowing us to continue offering our services free of charge.
Events such as Walk & Talk are incredibly important to our charity as they do not only raise vital funds but also help raise awareness about the support available for cancer patients and their families. These events bring the community together, encourage open conversations around cancer, and help us continue providing essential services to those in need.”
Both charities welcome support from the local community.

Caminata Benéfica Recauda Cerca de 3.000 € para PAWS-PATAS y MACS

El sábado 16 de mayo, 65 personas se reunieron en el paseo marítimo de Mojácar para recorrer una ruta de 5 km y recaudar fondos para las asociaciones benéficas PAWS-PATAS y MACS. Gracias a los participantes y a las donaciones de empresas locales y residentes, se recaudaron 2.810 €, que se repartieron equitativamente entre ambas organizaciones.

El organizador Alex Radford, de My Lawyer in Spain, comentó:
“Fue una mañana maravillosa y un evento realmente especial. El tiempo estuvo de nuestro lado y contamos con una gran participación, con muchas personas caminando y conversando. Gracias a todos los participantes y empresas colaboradoras por su apoyo. El próximo año volveremos con un evento aún más grande y mejor, y con una ruta más larga.”

Un total de ocho empresas locales patrocinaron y apoyaron el evento: My Lawyer in Spain, Currencies Direct, Tim Taplin Financial Services, Spanish Property Choice, Ibex Insurance, Coastal Properties, Indalo Transport and Storage, Macenas Resort y Tito’s Beach Bar. Estas empresas comprometidas con la comunidad promocionaron el evento, vendieron entradas y asistieron el día para conversar, pasear y recaudar fondos y concienciar sobre dos excelentes causas benéficas.

Las asociaciones están encantadas con el resultado del evento y garantizarán que las donaciones se destinen a un excelente uso.

Martine Shindler, de PAWS-PATAS, comentó:
“En nombre de todos en PAWS-PATAS, incluidos nuestros amigos peludos, nos gustaría agradecer a todos los que organizaron el evento y participaron en la caminata. Su apoyo significa muchísimo para nosotros y nos ayuda a continuar con la importante labor que realizamos rescatando, salvando y cuidando animales. Los costes de funcionamiento del refugio superan ligeramente los 13.000 € al mes, por lo que donaciones como estas son vitales.

Lamentablemente, el número de animales abandonados en esta zona está aumentando y PAWS-PATAS necesita urgentemente construir más cheniles y una zona de cuarentena para la gatera. A finales de 2025 compramos un terreno junto al refugio actual y ahora comienza seriamente la recaudación de fondos para construir y desarrollar ese espacio. Por eso, eventos solidarios como Walk & Talk, entre muchos otros, son fundamentales para que podamos seguir cuidando de nuestra ‘familia peluda’ actual y también ayudar a muchos más animales.”

What a fantastic community event we were privileged to be part of this weekend!

The Walk and Talk event in Mojácar brought together local businesses, supporters, families, and friends for an enjoyable afternoon filled with positivity, laughter, and fundraising for two worthwhile causes.

Everyone at MACS Cancer Support Group would like to say a heartfelt thank you to My Lawyer in Spain and Currencies Direct for organising and supporting such a brilliant initiative, and for selecting MACS and PAWS-PATAS as the chosen charities. We are also incredibly grateful to the many local businesses who came together to sponsor the event and help make the day such a success.

With final figures still being counted, we are delighted to announce that a minimum of €2,500 has already been raised — funding that will make a real difference to the people and animals cared for by both charities.

From the scenic walk along the paseo to the warm community atmosphere afterwards, the day was a wonderful reminder of what can be achieved when people come together for a good cause. It was lovely to see so many supporters taking part, including plenty of four-legged friends enjoying the occasion too!

A huge thank you also goes to Gus for leading the warm-up before the walk, and to Tesni and the team at Tito’s for the fantastic food and refreshments enjoyed by everyone afterwards.

To every person who attended, donated, bought tickets, or helped spread the word — thank you. Your continued support allows MACS to keep providing practical and emotional support to cancer patients and their families across our local community. 💙

El evento Walk and Talk en Mojácar reunió a negocios locales, colaboradores, familias y amigos para disfrutar de una maravillosa tarde llena de positividad, risas y recaudación de fondos para dos grandes causas solidarias.

Todo el equipo de MACS Cancer Support Group quiere expresar su más sincero agradecimiento a My Lawyer in Spain y Currencies Direct por organizar y apoyar esta brillante iniciativa, y por elegir a MACS y PAWS-PATAS como las organizaciones benéficas beneficiarias del evento. También queremos agradecer enormemente a las numerosas empresas locales que se unieron como patrocinadores y ayudaron a que el día fuese todo un éxito.

Aunque todavía se están contabilizando las cifras finales, nos complace anunciar que ya se han recaudado al menos 2.500 € — una cantidad que marcará una verdadera diferencia para las personas y animales apoyados por ambas organizaciones.

Desde el precioso paseo junto al mar hasta el gran ambiente vivido durante toda la jornada, el evento fue un maravilloso recordatorio de todo lo que puede lograrse cuando una comunidad se une por una buena causa. ¡Fue estupendo ver a tantos participantes, incluidos muchos amigos de cuatro patas disfrutando también del día!

Un agradecimiento especial también para Gus por dirigir el calentamiento antes de la caminata, y para Tesni y el equipo de Tito’s por la fantástica comida y bebidas que todos pudieron disfrutar después del recorrido.

A todas las personas que asistieron, hicieron donaciones, compraron entradas o ayudaron a difundir el evento — gracias de corazón. Vuestro apoyo continuo permite a MACS seguir ofreciendo apoyo práctico y emocional a pacientes con cáncer y a sus familias dentro de nuestra comunidad local. 💙
