Todays in FIRST CHAPTERS.. "Call me Ishmael.."
Written by Herman Melville, Moby Dick is one of the most significant and influential novels in American literature. Published in 1851, it explores deep and timeless themes such as obsession, the struggle between man and nature, and the search for identity. The opening chapter, where we first meet Ishmael, sets the tone for this epic adventure, inviting readers into a world of whaling, philosophy, and going into the unknown.
Why do I love this novel so much? Despite its length and complexity (I haven´t finished it yet), I think Moby Dick offers a profound journey into the heart of American storytelling. It blends adventure, poetic language, and philosophical insight, making it a rewarding read. For anyone interested in diving into American literature, this is an excellent starting point. Although it might seem daunting at first, its richness and depth are well worth the effort. In first Chapters.. We want to get acquainted with universal classics written in English language.
I’ve shared a video in both Spanish and English, which you’ll find helpful in understanding this book and its flaws. I've also posted a link to the first chapter, which I propose you to read. This webpage offers explanations of difficult words and passages, making it easier to engage with the text. You can also read it in Spanish if you want!
I’m excited to hear your thoughts and impressions in our next English club meeting!
Cheers!
