BECAS DONALD GRAY 2026 | 📢 Abierta la convocatoria de las Becas Donald Gray 2026

En esta edición, la Beca Donald Gray ofrece la oportunidad de aprender y formarse junto a la maestra vitralista Anna Santolaria Tura, especialista en conservación y restauración de vidrieras y Premio de las Artes de la Construcción 2019.

✨ La persona seleccionada recibirá una ayuda económica de 7.200 € brutos para desarrollar su formación.

Además, en esta misma convocatoria también está disponible una segunda Beca Donald Gray para formarse junto al maestro carpintero y ebanista Miguel Ángel Balmaseda, referente en la conservación de las técnicas tradicionales de carpintería de Écija y Premio de las Artes de la Construcción 2019.

🗓️ Plazo de presentación de candidaturas: hasta el 8 de septiembre de 2026.

Drawing, drawing, drawing… Hand drawing is at the heart of every day in our Summer Schools.

“Drawing and writing help catalog knowledge gained. The collection of experiences and memories serve as a design resource to draw upon. Taking photographs or reading magazine articles is a poor substitute for the well of ideas one collects while making an in situ drawing. It is not only a visual exercise, but a sensory immersion in sound, smell, feeling, and light. Drawing is experience. Drawing is research. Sketchbooks are stored experiences. Drawn ideas are remembered ideas.”

IBERIAN SUMMER SCHOOL | The 2026 edition of the Iberian Summer School concluded on 18 July with the public presentation of the participants’ work at the NOVA University Lisbon campus.

Over two weeks, more than thirty young architects and architecture students from around the world studied Lisbon's traditional architecture and developed proposals for the regeneration of degraded public spaces in Galinheiras based on the area's local building traditions.

The first week's documentation and final proposals were displayed in a public exhibition at the conclusion of the programme. The event was attended by Vasco Moreira Rato, Lisbon Councillor for Urban Planning, Housing and Municipal Buildings; Avelino Oliveira, President of the Ordem dos Arquitectos; Paulo Pardelha, Director of Urban Planning for the Municipality of Lisbon; Carlos Castro, President of the Parish Council of Santa Clara, where Galinheiras is located; as well as representatives of the organising and partner institutions.

The event marked the end of two weeks of intensive work. It also highlights the potential of local building traditions to inform the long-term regeneration and enhancement of Galinheiras and other areas of Lisbon facing similar urban challenges.

IBERIAN SUMMER SCHOOL | Galinheiras, in northern Lisbon, is the intervention area selected for this year's Iberian Summer School. Although it is a predominantly residential neighbourhood, it is also one of the city's most disadvantaged urban areas, characterised by fragmented public spaces, informal construction, and poor connections with the rest of Lisbon due to the major transport infrastructures that surround and divide it.

Participants have been divided into groups, each working on a different site within the neighbourhood.

After analysing the existing urban fabric, public spaces, buildings and surrounding landscape, every team is developing an architectural and urban proposal aimed at regenerating these areas through context-sensitive interventions inspired by the traditional architecture and building culture that still survive in Galinheiras and its surroundings, drawing on local materials, construction techniques and urban character to reinforce the neighbourhood's identity and sense of place.

IBERIAN SUMMER SCHOOL | This week, the Iberian Summer School begins by dividing participants into working groups. Building on the work and information gathered during the previous week, each group will develop different improvement proposals for the studied areas.

In addition, throughout the week, lectures focusing on new traditional architecture and urban design will be held in the evenings.

IBERIAN SUMMER SCHOOL | Over the weekend, participants in the Iberian Summer School had the opportunity to take part in two traditional building craft demonstrations led by master craftspeople: tilework with Isabel Colher and plasterwork with António Enes Morais.

In the afternoon, participants were divided into working groups and assigned various design challenges in Galinheiras. The day concluded with a series of lectures on new traditional architecture and urban design.
