The LRC is an IFRC initiative and hosted by Cruz Roja Española, to increasing awareness and use of effective livelihoods programming strategies.

The importance of the Red Cross and Red Crescent societies' and the Federation's participation in, and contribution to, global economic support and livelihoods programming in emergency response, recovery, rehabilitation and development has been universally recognised. On the 25 of November 2010, the Livelihoods Resource Centre was officially established through an agreement signed between the SRC

(Spanish Red Cross) and IFRC (International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies) . The Centre is based at the Spanish Red Cross headquarters in Madrid, Spain.
