💡 Researchers at IMDEA Materials Institute have developed a new hybrid methodology that combines quantum mechanics and thermodynamic calculations to predict the phase diagram of nickel-cobalt alloys.

Published in Acta Materialia, this breakthrough overcomes the limitations of traditional methods, particularly at low temperatures, without the need for experimental data.

“Existing phase diagrams are based on experimental data that are difficult to obtain and often inaccurate, especially at low temperatures, where material transformations are extremely slow,” explained Dr. Chenying Shi, lead author of the publication.

“This new method overcomes these barriers by eliminating the need for this experimental data,” added the postdoctoral researcher.

IMDEA Materials is seeking a Research Assistant to support the development and deployment of FAIR data infrastructure within the FAIR-LAB project, aimed at enabling data-driven research in additive manufacturing (AM) and X-ray computed tomography (XCT).

The selected candidate will work closely with data engineers and researchers to digitalise experimental workflows, structure datasets, and ensure their integration into a FAIR-compliant data ecosystem.

This includes supporting the creation of a centralised repository, implementing metadata standards, and preparing datasets for downstream analytics and AI applications.

Unlike a pure data engineering role, this position focuses on data preparation, structuring, and FAIR compliance, acting as a critical bridge between experimental research and scalable data infrastructure.

This position is being offered through of the Recovery and Resilience Plan for Spain, with the objective of offering opportunities for young researchers under the age of 30 who are currently registered as unemployed in Spain.

👀 As such, mandatory requirements include:
a) Be aged between 16 and 30.
b) Be registered as an unemployed jobseeker at any employment office within Spain's National Employment System.
c) Bachelor’s degree
