Last week, we celebrated , a moment to recognise the power of partnerships and shared values in creating opportunities for young people.

The EU-funded project “SMILE: supporting major improvements to livelihoods in East Jerusalem” empowers local youth by providing training that helps them build brighter, more sustainable futures. Through this initiative, we support young people like Dana in developing skills and creating long-term opportunities.

Beyond strengthening her business Dana plays an active role in her community. Through her embroidery workshops, she uses Palestinian traditional craft to bring people together fostering connection, creativity and cultural preservation.

💡 A small business can be a lifeline for stability and resilience.

📉 Youth unemployment in Yemen is a major challenge, with many young people unable to access formal employment. Despite these challenges, small businesses offer a vital pathway to income generation and play an important role in driving economic growth.

🌱 Thanks to the Mustaqbalak Entrepreneurship training, young Yemenis, especially women who make up 62% of the cohorts, are developing the skills they need to thrive. Even in the face of long-term unemployment, participants are gaining practical tools, including access to financing, enabling them to improve their livelihoods and create further opportunities for young people in their communities.

: financial inclusion and economic opportunity to build your future in Yemen, is a project funded by Education Above All Foundation and implemented by EFE-Yemen, EFE-Europe, and Al-Amal Microfinance Bank.

According to Unicef Every child in the Strip needs some form of mental health support due to displacement, loss and violence.

Today, we step inside a displacement camp with Israa, a graduate of the AIUTIAMO GAZA project, a programme supported by COOPI and training 50 young Gazans in first aid and emergency psychosocial support (PSS).

Psychosocial support gives children a safe space to begin healing. It helps them process trauma, manage fear, and regain a sense of stability through care, play, and emotional expression.

As part of Amazon Web Services community engagement initiatives, the Excellence in Workplace Program has successfully concluded in Bahrain, empowering 20 young professionals including people of determination through 40 hours of interactive workshops, practical exercises, and individual mentoring to strengthen their job readiness.

Some of graduates have already secured employment across various sectors (hospitality, tourism and transportation), with ongoing placement support for the remaining cohort participants. The program prioritized inclusive participation, enabling youth with determination to build decent and meaningful careers.

🚨 Nearly 1.9 million people, about 90% of 's population, have been displaced at least once since October 2023. Gaza’s health system is facing a catastrophic collapse, with 94% of hospitals damaged or destroyed, leaving many areas without functioning services, while primary care centres, ambulances, and essential medical supplies are in critically short supply.

🤝 In response, EFE, in collaboration with COOPI, is addressing the crisis through the AIUTIAMO GAZA project, which trains 50 young Gazans in First Aid and Emergency Psychosocial Support (PSS). These trained youth form a decentralised network of first responders, providing urgent medical and emotional assistance in areas where hospitals are not operating.

With the first cohort of 25 graduates already active across displacement camps and hospitals, this initiative is set to provide direct medical care and psychosocial support to an estimated 10,000 people, complementing Education for Employment-Palestine’s ongoing humanitarian efforts.

📊 In Algeria, nearly 30% of young people are unemployed, with the rate for women almost double that of men. This is worsened by an education system that often leaves graduates unprepared, schools prioritise memorisation over critical thinking, and vocational programmes struggle with outdated content and limited equipment, leaving many young people, particularly women, with significant barriers to meaningful employment.

🎓 EFE in Algeria and the Foundation’s Global are tackling this gap with the AJYAL project. So far, nearly 50 young Algerians have already developed essential soft skills, including communication, teamwork, problem-solving, and public speaking, equipping them with the confidence and practical skills to succeed in their careers. Evening sessions and adapted schedules ensured learning continued during Ramadan.

🌎 Globally, women make up only 35% of STEM graduates, according to UNESCO. For young women from underrepresented communities, including Roma girls, the barriers can be even greater, with fewer visible role models and limited access to opportunities.

💻 At 22, Noemi began learning programming with no prior coding experience through our Training for a Digital Future 3.0. She's now completing a 600-hour online Python Programming course funded by Accenture and delivered by Fundación Secretariado Gitano in partnership with Universitat Oberta de Catalunya (UOC). She's gaining university-accredited digital skills, hands-on project experience, and personalised academic support.

🗓️8️⃣ This International Women’s Day, we reaffirm our commitment to inclusion, skills development, and pathways into decent and meaningful employment for young women.
