Last week Martin and Sharon from Homeward Bound Animal Transport Services dropped by to visit … they were in the area. I’m sure we told everyone what an amazing job they did in bringing the Purely gang to their new home in the UK … to have every dog arrive relaxed and happy was just wonderful, that in itself I am absolutely sure has helped them to adapt as quickly as they have done but for us to know our ‘kids’ had such a stress free and happy journey really did mean the world, it meant the world and the moon … It was lovely to see them and that they could see how happy the gang are was great. They also brought the most wonderful gift of all ….. we didn’t know, it was an amazing surprise …

You all may remember that we lost our amazing boy OJ a few days before we left, cancer did its evil thing and we were heart broken. OJ was special beyond words and we all miss him so very much … but Martin and Sharon brought him home, they brought his ashes .. so he could now rest with his family. There maybe some people reading this who don’t quite understand how it feels to have him back home with us - and that it isn’t him … but it is … his spirit has come home to his family where it should be. We wouldn’t leave anyone behind, but time wasn’t on our side. Martin and Sharon are in that small group of most wonderful human beings who go above and beyond ….

There was another wonderful person involved in this most incredible gift and I know she doesn’t like to be credited much in everything she does but I do know that OJ would want to thank Aunty Dorte for getting him home to his family … he rested with Aunty Dorte and Uncle Michael for a little while which was a big relief for us but for his special Aunty to arrange for him to come home … well that is a gift that you can’t put a value on, it is worth more than words can say.

Sharon, Martin, Dorte and Michael … you are all such special people, we can’t ever thank you enough! Thank you for getting our special boy back home to us all.

Don’t let anyone ever tell you the the weather in the UK is always horrible - it sure isn’t here in the East Riding!

Today has been so warm and sunny, we actually were able to start and mow the ‘meadow’! It was a tad too long to mow it at first with a low cut so it’s had a darned good trim and tomorrow it will be done to Wimbledon grass level as it will be much more dry. Dogs have had a ball, Lexi has hurtled round like a complete twit, the others tending to get out of her way rápido as she is like a tank and at full speed that’s a risk no one wants to take. After they all had a fabulous time running round and helping with mowing they then spent the rest of the afternoon enjoying the warm sunshine!

Pretty much a perfect Easter Monday!

Amy and I had a girls morning this morning as it was her turn to meet the new vets at Norwood in Beverley.

We saw the lovely vet Samantha who fell in love with Amy - everyone does of course. Samantha was lovely, understood all the scans Amy had had in Spain for her heart and her spleen and got us organized with all the medications Amy needs. We will be back in 3 months for a review so they can keep a close eye on how she is doing and adjust anything that is needed. Amy was very happy - she says don’t tell anyone but the treats at English vets are so much nicer! 😂

That’s to Norwood Veterinary Group Beverley for seeing Amy and being so kind - we are really grateful!

This afternoon was Lonnie’s turn to introduce himself to a new vet at Norwood Vet Practice in Beverley. It’s highly likely that unfortunately his leishmania has flared up once more.

Lonnie was greeted with so many smiles it was lovely. A very kind, very knowledgeable vet made him feel really at ease and then Lonnie was introduced to a lovely kind Spanish vet so it began to feel like home from home for him. He toddled off for blood tests like a little trouper and so I’m told carried himself perfectly in the treatment room as we know he always does - I couldn’t count the amount of times this darling boy has had blood tests in his life but he never shies away.

We came home with some antibiotics for a very sore foot, Alopurinol to begin some treatment for Leish until his blood results come back and we can see where we are at with Leishmania activity.

It was a really pleasant visit for both of us, we felt very welcome and very reassured that Lonnie will be cared for well at Norwood Vets.

Lonnie, well he quite enjoyed his trip out, he enjoyed seeing the Yorkshire countryside, although I’m told they can’t see green but some form of murky brown fields must have looked very interesting as he happy sat taking it all in. He has voiced his interest in having a flat cap and a Barbour jacket for his next trip out …. he could be waiting a while ….

Thanks Norwood Veterinary Group for being so kind to our Lonnie ❤️

Following on from the squatters - Okupas - in the Purely house in Almogia ….

The scumbags have been removed. They were ‘neighbours’ from a house of dubious business means - if you know you know but I think you can hazard a guess. However even though they were caught in the property, they had changed the locks and installed their own unmonitored alarm the Guardian Civil just let them go with a slap on the wrist. It beggars belief really and it is no wonder this happens so often if these low lives are not prosecuted or sanctioned. It feels so very unfair, if you or I parked our car in the wrong place, failed to pay some tax etc we will be hauled over the coals, we would be sanctioned … yet seemingly you can just steal someone else’s house and it’s ok.

Now we are reinstating an internet supply and a monitored alarm will be fitted … all extra monthly costs of course.

We must thank our lawyers Maria Jose Predraza Garcia of Pedraza Anogados in Coin and the amazing Manuela who have both worked so hard to get this horrid situation resolved legally and correctly. Ladies - thank you so very much ❤️

Our second thank you goes to a man who has gone way above and beyond - I swear last week he was wearing his pants outside his trousers because he really has been Superman. Bill Allfree of Costa Sol Homes in Torremolinos - this man is a superhero! All super hero’s need a sidekick and Bill has that also in Franco. We are indebted to you - for everything you have done it’s been way above what anyone would ever expect, the kindness and understanding has been heartwarming and totally reassuring.

Gracias, Inma ❤️

There are also so good neighbours further down the mountain - Inma - thank you for your kind words, your support and the virtual hugs … I know you have also been upset that Henry has been so disrespected by the those who have done such bad things. Thank you Inma ❤️

To all friends who have sent kind words, lovely messages … the lovely gentleman who offered to stay the night at the house with his dogs until the security company could get something sorted, to the ‘Monda’ family for making us laugh … The kind friends who spoke directly with security companies and arranged visits, a very special lady indeed who sent the most beautiful flower arrangement ❤️ and ‘my girls’ … You all made such a difference when it felt like the straw that was going to break the camels back.

A huge massive THANK YOU from Yorkshire - Ta luvs!

SQUATTERS - OKUPAS.

Safe to say the human race disappoints once more….

The home that was the home of Henry and that of Purely for Dogs over the last 10 years has been taken over by squatters. Yes we left the house for sale … but you should be able to leave a house for more than a week … we say a week because we know it is in this last week as friends were there a week after we left … everything was secure and as normal .. then yesterday when the estate agent went to the property he was met with a heavily tattooed man living there - the locks had been changed. We could have been away on holiday, could have put the dogs in kennels for a while and then come back to this …. To me someone in the area must know - someone local must know who this person/s are … The reason we left, the reason we left so quickly was a window in time of Henry’s health, it was time to be close to family and to be able to get health, friend and family support we so desperately needed …. for someone to do this when someone is so poorly and already down … it’s disgusting … it’s another kick to an already broken heart.

It’s been said to us we should not have left, we should have waited until someone bought the house, we should have done this, we should have done that … well … I have said to those people to sit, put themselves in our position and then tell me what we should and shouldn’t have done…. We have battled for a long time with this awful health situation, we have battled long before we made public anything … and it’s been very hard, it’s been breaking to try to keep everything together and keep being able to function with a ‘man down’. Henry’s worries have been that I would be permanently alone up there … a justified worry I now think …

This is now potentially hugely expensive - yes we know the law etc etc - our estate agent and solicitor will be co ordinating as much as possible to try to handle things and limit costs that will be adding up literally in the hundreds and thousands of euros. It feels very much now like now there is no house to sell, there is nothing for Henry ….

So a few important points because these people are nothing short of scum bags … I don’t think there is anything to link us personally or Purely For Dogs at the house left behind but you never know … a scrap of paper, an old collection tin … so I will state clearly if anyone sees anything relating to Purely .. and fund raising etc the only tin we didn’t collect is at Dr Raj the dentist in Alhaurin el Grande as we didn’t have time to go and collect it. There are NO OTHERS. Purely for dogs had been legally dissolved as we said we would do leaving Spain. The Association (Charity) was legally dissolved at the Junta de Andalucia and the NIF (tax number) has been dissolved likewise at the Hacidena (tax office) we do NOT exist.

The name Purely For Dogs we have kept to use just on Facebook and Instagram so people who have adopted from us, who have followed us and the dogs stories all these years can see lives and new adventures continuing.

For us it’s heartbreaking in many ways - financially of course - that’s a colossal concern that we honestly can only see a a major disaster - we have seen such scum take houses and they never leave or they wreck it not just inside but structurally too so it can never ever be sold and the owner is still paying the price in bills and responsibilities … but you know the emotional side … is just as breaking. The little ones who have come, who have gone to new homes, those that didn’t and who stayed with us and those who lived and passed under the rainbow there … it feels like their memories have been dirtied … and yes irrational I know - memories come with you but I know many of you will understand what we are feeling. The memories we made together ..

Other people seem to be able to leave their houses for months on end … yet us … nah … let’s kick these folk while they are down .. it shows how much people you thought cared a little really don’t care at all … As I say … we could have just gone on holiday - folks do that sometimes and we would have returned to some tattooed, rough, aggressive living in our home and what could we have done about it … sounds like pretty little - law and new law changes taken into account. We have to hope the police will act … the Guardian Civil who should act … well they close at lunch times so nothing could be done yesterday … let’s hope care and justice turn up today …

In summary - scum bags have beaten a man when he is down by taking his house … Purely does NOT exist as a Charity don’t engage in any local fundraising. The world and some of its people have gone to cr@p.

Day 12 in the Uk and a trip to the vets …. as per usual it’s a weekend but Wicstun Veterinary Hospital in Market Weighton quickly found us an appointment for 10am for which we were hugely grateful.

What a great place, very swish indeed, lots of smiling faces and with free drinks for humans - hot drinks of course not G&T or natty little Merlot - it felt very welcoming.

Little Pepsi is rather poorly, we don’t know if maybe she has inhaled something odd in the garden, there’s lots of nooks and crannies a little poddy nose can get into but she has a really nasty chest infection. A lovely vet was so kind with her, gave her a really good examination, we were given the option of caring for her at home or Pepsi being admitted into the hospital over the weekend. We decided to care at home and return quickly if there is a downturn, we came away with antibiotics, an antitussive and anti inflammatories … Pepsi is on bed rest so it looks like a Netflix weekend for her bless her cotton socks.

We thank Wicstun Vets Wicstun Veterinary Group for seeing our Pepsi so quickly and for the very kind care - we are really very appreciative ❤️

Well it’s been a week since we all landed in Swanland on our new Purely adventure.

It’s been a very busy, very tiring time particularly baring in mind the reason that instigated our move away from Spain back to the UK. We will have lots of updating to do and we hope you can bear with us a little longer on all of that.

What we really must do is thank two wonderful people who brought all of the Purely gang to the UK on their Happy Homeward Bound Bus - Martin and Sharon of Homeward Bound Animal Transport. Their kindness in doing this transport run for us bowled us over - to be able to have all our dogs travel together was amazing, it meant there was less stress for them as they travelled with the familiarity of their own pals. All of the dogs are unchosen ones, the never wanted for adoption ones but that doesn’t mean they are a lesser dog and they were treated like little Kings and Queens from leaving us at home in Spain to arriving at their new home in England. They were precious cargo and both Sharon and Martin totally respected that as they do with each and every dog who travels with them. We have some particularly nervous dogs, non more so than Jake who is terrified if he has to go out of the gate never mind out of his comfort zone and country but Martin was just amazing with him! He gave him confidence and he gave him a sense of security so much so that Jake like all of the others had a walk out of the Happy Bus on many occasions during the journey - that is totally ground breaking for Jake and we can never say how thankful we are of this wonderful care and consideration.

Every dog arrived in a happy relaxed state, they were spotlessly clean, they were hydrated and certainly not hungry at all, they were very content little travelers. The purposely kitted out transport van is for sure 5* and this we feel also made a difference to how relaxed the dogs were, they will have felt very comfortable and secure during this long journey.

Martin and Sharon - you did a most wonderful job for us, we will be forever grateful. In what was a really stressful time for us you took the worry away about the gang and you looked after them as if they were your own and their safety was a huge priority. From Henry and myself, every single dog - Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!! ❤️

Photo’s of Heidi - on her big adventure trip with Martin and Sharon to running on grass - well in grass we are aware we need to buy a lawnmower!!

Last Thursday we had to let OJ rest …….

He went to a calm and serene sleep with the gentle care of vet Gema while we held him, told him how much we loved him and just how privileged we had been to have shared his wonderful life with him. We thanked him for his unwavering loyalty and devotion ….

The heartache is immeasurable.

OJ was everything, he was the most loyal boy, he was always the leader of the Purely pack no matter how those dynamics kept changing - he held everyone’s respect and he only needed to assert order and authority with a look. He accepted puppies even though he probably thought they were annoying little pipsqueaks , he tolerated other males but made it clear he was the boss, he liked the girls but was always a ‘gentleman’ he would try to play sometimes which was a joyous thing to see …. he was a protector and no one would ever have come through the gates without us showing them in. When Henry had had times in hospital OJ never left my side and I never felt worried alone up here isolated and in the dark because OJ was always reassuringly there and on guard. He was truly the heart of Purely For Dogs and it feels like we have had the soul sucked out of us ….

OJ had cancer, sarcoma, he had had chemotherapy just over a year ago and we are truly grateful for the extra time that gave us all together, the extra days of love. At the grand age of 13, this proud Dutch Shepherd had overcome Leishmania, removal of large tumours on both elbows, a histiocytoma on his tummy and the nasty sarcoma on his foot .. he had dealt with everything with such calmness and stoicism but he also quietly enjoyed being cared for and wrapped up in a blankey on the sofa when he was poorly. He was a ‘serious’ dog, didn’t take any messing, he was to be respected which of course we always did, but he was also happy for a kiss and a smooch just as long as other humans didn’t see so it didn’t effect to his ‘street cred’ … OJ was a once in a lifetime dog, we are blessed to have been a part of his family to have been loved by him but we are totally bereft that that time was not any longer.

We have lost a true friend, a loyal companion, a pack leader and guide, his loss has left a void in the daily routines of the other dogs, they seem to be like skittles who have been knocked down and are then wobbling around looking for a purpose …

We have lost our beloved boy ….
