Lonnie has now completed his 28 days of Milteforan for the flare up of Leishmania.

He’s such a brave little lad, he always has been as he has battled Leish from the day we picked him up 8 years ago, but he keeps on keeping on and he is the happiest boy, he is so loving and his gratitude for love and life is so obvious to see. I absolutely adore him and hold out positivity that the Leish can at least be under control at a certain level.

After the course of Milteforan it keeps working at full strength for a good few weeks yet so hopefully improvement and recovery will keep going well. Fingers and paws crossed!

Lonnie is such a love and such a special lad ❤️

They simply just don’t care!

Don’t call the RSPCA they are fine hardly broken a sweat! Just goes to show you can take the dogs out of Spain but you can’t take Spain out of the dogs!

Poor Lily … she alerted me to a wasp nest in a compost bin - but the alert comprised of being stung in her eye bless her cottons, I would much rather she had barked “Over there! Black and yellow !” But 🤷🏻‍♀️
Eye drops and anti inflammatory and she’s feeling a bit more comfy - I don’t need accidents or injuries at the the moment or any moment come to that matter ..
Anyway - now to deal with the pesky little nasties! 😬😬😬

Lonnie has started treatment for his Leishmania … again …. He has struggled with Glucantime and has needed steroids to run along side as the effect of the treatment causes him extreme vasculitis which has been very scary. So we are going back to Milteforan in the hopes we can at least make some headway and his very sore foot can heal. He would love to be able to run around on all 4 paws again.

This poor wonderful boy is only 9 years old and has had treatment almost every year of his life - for some reason we can never get him into remission. Let’s hope and pray this time there is some magic for him.

Although the world has changed immeasurably and it has been tipped on its head, care for the dogs of course continues and being new to a country we are accepting recommendations and requirements so that they can easily access the best care possible when needed.

Last week Heidi, Bobby, Freddie and Lexi all had vet appointments at Medivet in Swanland. They all had the kennel cough vaccine and were blood tested for Brucellosis Canis - results now through show they have all recorded a negative result which is a huge relief. I have to say that Medivet were outstanding, all dogs had individual visits as now of course without a dog van only one crate can fit inside the car but the staff were so accommodating scheduling appointments, they were lovely, friendly and really professional. Each and every dog got kisses, love and very tasty gravy biscuits … oh and a little bandage on their legs where blood had been taken. It seems more common here for blood to be taken from the neck - but the Purely kids just aren’t used to that at all so the vets kindly held this in mind and blood was drawn from their legs which is normal for these little Spanish kids.

Huge thanks to Medivet in Swanland for the kindness shown to the kids but also to myself - so very appreciated indeed.

Last night Jake made his way over the rainbow bridge to be by his dad’s side ….. Jake had been upset without Henry and I put his ‘sadness’ down to that as Jake stayed by his side while Henry was here at home .. but in the last few days it became more clear maybe something else was wrong … today I had to take him to Wicstun vet hospital in
Market Weighton as he was really very unwell. They have been amazing, did X-rays, bloods, scans and a CT scan, throughout they showed such kindness and compassion for Jakey, I can safely say they tried very hard but around 9pm I got the call that devastatingly Jake had cancer, a tumour in his spleen that had metastasized in to his lungs and he was struggling to breathe but he was also bleeding from his lungs … I drove to the hospital to be with him … and there he gently slipped over the bridge - I hope that Henry was there to guide him safely over and Jake’s best buddy Harry was waiting by Henry’s side with of course Mimi, OJ and Ches.

My heart is irreparably broken - loss is too much to bear at the moment … it all feels so cruel, so harsh and so pointless …

Jakey - we loved you so damn much, you have been by my side over the last few weeks as my rock and you stayed by Henry’s side when he was home but so very poorly - you didn’t leave him and you showed him how much you loved him … From such a rough start in life you learned quickly to trust, to love and be loved and everyone really did love you so much, you helped so many new dogs adjust and feel a part of the family, such a sensitive soul you got it, you got how they felt unsure and afraid and you showed them the way .. you were the first to trust Ches and you were instrumental in making his life amazing. We will miss you so much - Lonnie is already feeling sadness you aren’t here, he has loved you as a brother and can’t understand where you have gone, you didn’t come back in through the door you went out of today .. he is waiting … even Lexi respected you when she respects no one else … every single dog has loved you Jake … The world has tilted on is axis yet again and I don’t know which way up I am now but what I do know is as I told you tonight as your were in my arms - I know Jake that you have been the best boy in the world, you have given back in bucket loads what you were given, we are all so very blessed to have shared our lives with you my sweet boy… stand tall, be proud, you have been amazing and there will never, ever, be another you …. Until we meet again my boy .. take all of my love with you and share it with H, find all of your old pals and share that love with them too and please - give a special kiss to Mimi …

The world feels a little different today our adored Henry - the heart of Purely For Dogs - has passed away.

Henry adored every single dog that came through the gates at Purely and he cried with happiness when they left for their new homes, those that never found their new happy ever after became part of Henry’s heart and part of our family. There are many little lives who owe so much to him … we have all lost the most important person in our lives.

Henry faced his illness with courage, the upmost dignity, positivity and he still managed to smile, his lasting wish was to be at home where he explained to the nurses he needed to be able to put his hand on a dog …..

Funeral arrangements will be made in due course.

Last week Martin and Sharon from Homeward Bound Animal Transport Services dropped by to visit … they were in the area. I’m sure we told everyone what an amazing job they did in bringing the Purely gang to their new home in the UK … to have every dog arrive relaxed and happy was just wonderful, that in itself I am absolutely sure has helped them to adapt as quickly as they have done but for us to know our ‘kids’ had such a stress free and happy journey really did mean the world, it meant the world and the moon … It was lovely to see them and that they could see how happy the gang are was great. They also brought the most wonderful gift of all ….. we didn’t know, it was an amazing surprise …

You all may remember that we lost our amazing boy OJ a few days before we left, cancer did its evil thing and we were heart broken. OJ was special beyond words and we all miss him so very much … but Martin and Sharon brought him home, they brought his ashes .. so he could now rest with his family. There maybe some people reading this who don’t quite understand how it feels to have him back home with us - and that it isn’t him … but it is … his spirit has come home to his family where it should be. We wouldn’t leave anyone behind, but time wasn’t on our side. Martin and Sharon are in that small group of most wonderful human beings who go above and beyond ….

There was another wonderful person involved in this most incredible gift and I know she doesn’t like to be credited much in everything she does but I do know that OJ would want to thank Aunty Dorte for getting him home to his family … he rested with Aunty Dorte and Uncle Michael for a little while which was a big relief for us but for his special Aunty to arrange for him to come home … well that is a gift that you can’t put a value on, it is worth more than words can say.

Sharon, Martin, Dorte and Michael … you are all such special people, we can’t ever thank you enough! Thank you for getting our special boy back home to us all.
