🇮🇪 🌊 A very special and proud day for our ATLIC young people on Arranmore Island!

Young people from Donegal who have been participating in the Interreg Atlantic Area ATLIC project had the wonderful opportunity yesterday to meet President of Ireland, Her Excellency President Catherine Connolly, during her visit to Arranmore Island.

For the young people, it was particularly special to welcome the President to their own island and to have the opportunity to show her some of the innovative projects they have been developing through ATLIC. It was a full circle moment as the young people also met President Connolly when she opened the ATLIC International Creative Jam 2026 in Ireland, which was hosted by ATLIC partner Donegal Youth Service earlier this year. Yesterday's meeting with the President was a great opportunity to show how they have developed their innovative projects and to discuss the great opportunities that ATLIC and being part of the Atlantic Innoblue Community has provided them.

Over the past year, they have explored the Blue Economy, sustainability, innovation and entrepreneurship, developing their own ideas for responding to challenges and opportunities facing island and coastal communities. Their ATLIC journey has taken them to events and activities in Ireland and across Europe, so it was a particularly proud moment to be able to share some of that work with the President right at home on Arranmore Island. 💙

It was a memorable occasion for the young people, their school and the wider island community - and a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the creativity, ideas and potential of young people living on our offshore islands.

A day we’re sure they will remember for many years to come! 🇮🇪 💙 🌊

🌊 The ATLIC Legacy Continues and We Want You to Be Part of It! 💙

The ATLIC project has connected people, organisations and ideas across the Atlantic Area, exploring new opportunities around the blue economy, youth participation and innovation.

But the end of a project doesn’t have to mean the end of the connections we’ve built. 🤝

That’s why we invite you to join ATLIC Innoblue eNetwork, our private LinkedIn group created to keep the community connected, share opportunities, exchange knowledge and build new collaborations.

🌊🏆 Wishing Karea-Mareva the very best at the France Design Impact Awards 2026!

Today is a special day for the Karea-Mareva team, a project developed by students from our French partner L’École de design Nantes Atlantique 🇫🇷 within the European ATLIC Innoblue project.

Their proposal addresses the sargassum crisis in Guadeloupe through a connected buoy system designed to anticipate seaweed arrivals, predict their trajectories and support collection at sea.

💡 An idea that seeks to transform an environmental challenge into an opportunity for innovation, collective action and local resource development.

👏 Congratulations to the entire team for their creativity, hard work and commitment:

Elora Freudenberger, Laumane Cyprien, Kévin Banse, Elisa Lastiri Justice, Noémie de Araujo Le Prince and Maïwen Le Roux.

💙 We wish you the very best at today’s ceremony in Paris! We look forward to celebrating this recognition with you!

🌊 ATLIC in numbers: the impact of a project is also measured by the people it reaches.

Over the course of the project, 10 organisations from across the Atlantic area have joined forces to connect knowledge, ideas and people around the blue economy.

And the conversation has continued beyond meetings and activities, reaching new audiences through our social media platforms:

📸 Instagram: 22,561 views
📘 Facebook: 7,063 views
▶️ YouTube: 2,540 views

That adds up to 32,164 views, helping to share what ATLIC is all about: young people, creativity, innovation and new ways of thinking about the blue economy and the future of our Atlantic territories.

And behind every view, there is someone who stopped, watched, discovered and connected with the project.

🌊 This is part of the ATLIC Legacy: ideas that keep travelling.

🌊 What if a day in Cíes could be a day for everyone? ♿💙

At the ATLIC Blue Creative Jam, young people looked at the Cíes Islands from another perspective and asked a simple question:
How can we make the Cíes experience more accessible to people using wheelchairs?

💡 Their answer is “A Day Without Barriers” a proposal that brings together accessible routes, adapted equipment, trained staff, an accessible boat and activities designed so that wheelchair users can enjoy the islands with greater independence and confidence.

The prototype goes one step further with an Accessible Island Experience Kit, including route maps, information, support resources and adapted activities.

Because accessibility is not just about reaching a destination. It is about being able to enjoy the experience once you get there. 🌿🌊

Another idea born from the creativity and commitment of young people during the ATLIC Blue Creative Jam, led by Vida Láctea (Partner 🇪🇸), turning a challenge into a more inclusive way of experiencing Cíes.

🌊 The 3rd ATLIC Blue Creative Jam has come to Cíes! 💙

Yesterday, the Atlantic Islands of Galicia became a meeting point for young people ready to explore, question, create and turn ideas into solutions.

Surrounded by one of Galicia’s most extraordinary natural environments, participants worked together on real challenges connected to the islands, sharing different perspectives and discovering how creativity can help us rethink the way we interact with our oceans and coastal territories.

💡 Ideas took shape.
🤝 New connections were made.
🌿 Challenges became opportunities.
🌊 And the Blue Economy became something to experience, not just something to talk about.

But the real value of a Blue Creative Jam is what young people take with them afterwards: new skills, new perspectives and the confidence to turn an idea into something more.

This is how the ATLIC Legacy continues to grow through experiences, people and ideas that can travel far beyond Cíes. 🌍

The 3rd ATLIC Blue Creative Jam was organised by Vida Láctea , with the support of the Xunta de Galicia and the Parque Nacional das Illas Atlánticas de Galicia

🌊 From Cíes Islands comes another idea from the ATLIC Blue Creative Jam! 📲🐚

What if Cíes could guide you while you explore it?

Young participants identified a simple but important challenge: visitors need clear, accessible and timely information to enjoy the islands while respecting their environment.

💡 Their answer is Project Cíes, a mobile app designed to put the right information in the right place from rules and nature information to real-time alerts, routes, events and even boat and camping services.

The goal? Make it easier to explore Cíes responsibly, while helping protect the place that makes the experience so special. 🌿

Another idea born from the creativity of young people during the ATLIC Blue Creative Jam, turning a real challenge in the islands into a practical digital solution.

🌊 A new idea is born at the ATLIC Blue Creative Jam! 🐚📲

Creativity, youth participation and environmental awareness come together in a new solution developed within ATLIC: Cíes Eco Certification.

Young people worked on a very specific challenge: how can we help visitors better understand the environmental rules and encourage them to take care of the Cíes Islands?

💡 The result is an interactive experience combining a short video, a quiz and a digital certification, designed to raise awareness about the importance of respecting nature and avoiding littering.

An idea that turns a visit to Cíes into an opportunity to learn, engage and protect.

🌿 More environmental awareness
🐚 More respect for nature
♻️ Less littering
📲 Technology supporting education
👥 More responsible visitors

The initiative was developed in the Cíes Islands, within the Atlantic Islands of Galicia Maritime-Terrestrial National Park, as part of the ATLIC project, led by Vida Láctea , ATLIC’s Spanish partner. 💙

New ideas to care for the Cíes Islands!

Yesterday, at the Cíes Islands Interpretation Centre, as part of the ATLIC project, Vida Láctea (Spanish Partner) organised a session with a group of young people who put creativity and innovation at the service of the future of our National Park. 🌿🏝️

Through different challenges, they worked on proposals to:
👣 Better manage visits, avoiding overcrowding and respecting the park’s carrying capacity.
🌱 Educate and raise awareness, promoting more responsible behaviours before, during and after the visit.
♿ Make our natural and cultural heritage more accessible and inclusive, while ensuring the protection of ecosystems.
🤖 Apply technology to conservation, using sensors, artificial intelligence, data analysis and new tools to improve the visitor experience and protect the territory.

Because the future of the Cíes Islands is also built by listening to the younger generations. 💙

More ideas, more participation and more commitment to continue protecting this unique natural heritage. 🌊🌿
