En 2022 fui a Italia por trabajo. Volví siendo peregrino.

Caminé la Via di Francesco por el Lacio. Por los mismos senderos que recorrió San Francisco de Asís. Y hay algo en ese paisaje — los caminos de piedra, los pueblos que parecen parados en el tiempo, el silencio entre etapa y etapa — que te resetea por dentro.
No es turismo. Es otra cosa.

Cinco rutas históricas atraviesan el Lacio hacia Roma. Los Antichi Cammini d’Italia. Yo he caminado esta. Y ya estoy pensando en la siguiente.

Caminar la Via di Francesco fue de esas experiencias que te cambian algo por dentro sin que te des cuenta. Fui por trabajo. Volví siendo peregrino.

Esta es una de las rutas de los Antichi Cammini d'Italia — cinco caminos históricos que atraviesan el Lacio convergiendo hacia Roma. Una forma más lenta, más honesta, de ver una Italia que la mayoría de viajeros nunca llega a conocer.

I walked the Via Francigena through Tuscany. And I still think about it every single day.

The landscape, the silence, the medieval villages rising out of the mist… but let’s talk about what really kept me going. The food.

Pizza with a crust that actually has flavor. Focaccia still warm, eaten standing up, no plate needed. Gelato after a long day on the road — arguably the best you’ll ever have in your life. And wine. Local, cheap, perfect. Sometimes at noon. No regrets.

The Via Francigena is one of the oldest pilgrimage routes in Europe. Less known than the Camino de Santiago, but just as life-changing. Wilder. More yours.

You arrive. And you don’t know whether to laugh or cry — so you do both at the same time.
The Plaza del Obradoiro receives you the way it always has: vast, somehow silent beneath all the noise, all the people, all the emotion. The cathedral stands there, exactly as it has for centuries. You, though — you are not the same person who left.
You walk in. The incense. The shadows. The weight of every single step that brought you here pressing gently on your chest. And then you see it above you — the Botafumeiro, that enormous silver pendulum of smoke and light, swinging between two worlds.
The one you were. And the one you’re becoming.
Because arriving in Santiago is not an ending.
It never was.
It’s the moment you realize the Camino doesn’t stop at the cathedral door — it just changes shape.
The path continues. So do you.

Some roads never really leave you.
Walking the Camino again, and suddenly — Tuscany is right here with me. The same weight of the backpack. The same morning light. The same feeling that the only thing that matters is the next step.
A few weeks ago I was on the Via Francigena with and@andyaustinphoto, walking one of Italy’s oldest pilgrimage routes through the heart of Tuscany. Part of Italian Pilgrim Routes 2026 by — a project that believes slow travel has the power to change how we see the world.
Every camino brings back the last one. That’s the magic of walking. 🌿

Where paths meet, stories begin… but this week, the rain writes its own chapter.

Right now, heavy rains are crossing one of the most symbolic junctions of the Camino -where the Baztan Way, the French Way and the Camino de Caravaca connect. A true punto de caminos, a place of encounters, decisions and new beginnings… 🌧️

If you are walking these days, slow down. Listen to the trail. Check the terrain, protect your gear and take extra care on descents and forest sections. The Camino is not a race -it’s a journey, and every step deserves respect.

The rain will pass. The memories will stay.
Buen Camino… and walk safe.

Reading ' "Let Them" hit different when you've walked 800km learning the same lesson the hard way.

That voice in your head asking "what will people think?" — it's louder than any actual criticism you'll ever receive.

The strips that fear away, one kilometer at a time. Not because people stop having opinions, but because you realize they're too busy walking their own path to judge yours.

The book puts words to what the trail teaches silently.

Back in Madrid for and honestly? This never gets old.
New faces, old friends, and the kind of projects that remind you why you love what you do. Three days of talking Caminos, sharing stories, and connecting with people who actually get it.
But let’s be real - FITUR ends when the sun goes down and Madrid comes alive. Reunions with the old friends from home, those conversations that go until 3 AM, the kind of nights you actually remember.
From Andalucía pavilions to late-night terrazas, from business cards to bear hugs.
They say home is where the heart is. Mine’s split between the Camino and these reminds me of the caminofamily.
