Today February 1 is Dia del Galgo; World Galgo Day.
This is the end of hunting season in Spain, meaning that tens of thousands of Spanish hunting dogs, including galgos and podencos, are deemed to be useless. They are discarded to the street, hanged, thrown down wells, you name it. Often the microchips are physically removed so the hunters won’t be found. The lucky ones end up in specialized Galgo/Podenco shelters and eventually leave Spain for adoption. The unlucky ones end up in kill stations, starved or die.
Yesterday some of our team took a trip to Manchester supporting the silent march .spanish.hounds . We need to drive change so these dogs don’t continue to suffer. We stand against cruelty and seek for same rights for ALL dogs!
These dogs are wonderful companions; often easy going, smart, affectionate and bed/sofa hogs. Please consider adoption one of these gentle dogs.
Another march was held in London today. Show your support - share, repost, spread awareness.
