Yes, eucalyptus needs fire to reproduce. Yes, it burns easily and longer. But when it comes to brushfires, we are talking about the wrong thing (plant species) instead of the right one (land management). Luckily, many farmers in Spain are realizing this. They introduce sheep, cattle, goats into the mountain forests to clear out the droppings and brush in the under canopy. We will contribute to this with our sheep. And Australia had that to. It was called a cultural burning, done by the aboriginal indigenous population.

Sí, el eucalipto necesita el fuego para reproducirse. Sí, arde con facilidad y durante más tiempo. Pero cuando hablamos de incendios forestales, nos centramos en lo que no debemos (las especies vegetales) en lugar de en lo que sí debemos (la gestión del territorio). Por suerte, muchos agricultores en España se están dando cuenta de ello. Introducen ovejas, vacas y cabras en los bosques de montaña para eliminar los excrementos y la maleza del sotobosque. Nosotros contribuiremos a ello con nuestras ovejas. Y en Australia también se hacía eso. Se denominaba «quema cultural» y la realizaba la población indígena aborigen.

Invasive behavior and what we generally understand as that.

The part about river renaturation lacks a lot of depth, so here's the summary of my research, what changed after stopping the invasive intervention.

• Sediment Transport (Geschiebedynamik): Rivers naturally carry gravel and stones from upstream. Once dredging stops, the riverbed reclaims this material to restore its natural depth.
• Natural Flow Obstacles: Features like small waterfalls, plunge pools (Gumpen), roots, and bank vegetation act as natural brakes. They slow down the water, allowing gravel to settle and form stable bars.
• Bed Stabilization: Accumulating gravel prevents deep erosion (Tiefenerosion), raises the riverbed to its original level, and helps distribute high water more safely across the banks.
• Organic Matter Filtration (Hyporheic Interstitial): The porous gravel bed acts as a giant natural filter. It traps and encloses organic matter (like leaves and algae) within its gaps, where specialized microorganisms break it down, purifying the water.
• Ecological Benefits: A gravel-rich riverbed provides critical habitats for aquatic insects, serves as essential spawning grounds for native fish (like trout), and improves natural flood protection by slowing down the current.
