Travelling to the Costa del Sol Convention

Several members have asked about travel arrangements for the convention, so we thought it would be helpful to share a few details.

Fuengirola is served by Málaga Airport, which has excellent connections throughout Europe and beyond. From the airport, the convention hotel can be reached by train, taxi, transfer, bus, or hire car.

To help attendees plan their visit, we have created a dedicated convention website containing information about travel, registration, accommodation, local transport, and programme updates.

The Results Are In – Thank You for Voting!

A huge thank you to everyone who took part in voting for the 2026 Costa del Sol Convention meeting themes!

The response has been fantastic, and your choices are now directly helping shape the convention programme built around the Promises and our 2026 theme:
“Living the Promises.”

The top seven voted themes will now be embedded into the main hall speaker programme, while the remaining themes will be integrated throughout the smaller “One Hour at a Time” marathon meetings across the weekend.

The convention programme will include:
• Main hall themed AA meetings inspired by the voting results
• Two Keynote Shares with Q&A from Tim M (London)
• YPAA Meeting
• AA & Al-Anon Joint Meeting
• Final Closing Meeting with Sobriety Countdown and Raffle

Alongside this, we also have:
• The return of the Icebreaker Session (extremely popular last year!)
• Quiz Night
• Live Entertainment
• All Night Disco

We will also have:
• A full Al-Anon programme
• LGBTQ+ programme
• Hourly Marathon Meetings — now titled “One Hour at a Time” Meetings

We have to admit, there’s something fascinating about watching these anonymous votes unfold - a group of AA minds gradually creating patterns together.

At the moment, the most popular choice is:
“Our whole attitude and outlook upon life will change”

Closely followed by:
“We will know a new freedom and a new happiness”

But we also enjoy interpreting what the least popular options might reveal about us as alcoholics!

Currently, the least selected theme is:
“We will lose interest in selfish things”

…with:
“Self-seeking will slip away”
coming in as the second least popular.

You really have to smile at us AAs sometimes.

LGBTQ+ Rainbow Room - Programme

This year’s Convention sees an expanded LGBTQ+ offering, with a dedicated Rainbow Room hosting a full programme across the weekend. This includes a Step 11 workshop, speaker meetings, and a farewell meeting - providing space for connection, spirituality, and shared recovery.

All members are welcome to attend.

In keeping with Alcoholics Anonymous Tradition 3, the only requirement for membership is a desire to stop drinking. These meetings are open to anyone who identifies with that desire, regardless of background or identity.

We look forward to sharing this space in unity and recovery.

Help Shape Our Convention – Have Your Say

As part of this year’s convention, we invite you to help shape our programme by selecting the themes for the main hall speaker meetings.

Our overall theme is “Living the Promises,” inspired by the well-known passage from Alcoholics Anonymous Big Book (pages 83–84). Using the language from these commonly read lines, we have created eight theme options for our speakers to share on.

Please choose the themes that resonate most with you. Your input will help guide the focus of the meetings and ensure a meaningful and inspiring experience for all who attend.

📢 Convention Registration Update – 2026 Fuengirola AA Convention

Following last week’s hotel booking update, this week we’d like to share some important information about convention registration.

First things first… there has been an increase in the convention admission price this year, due to a significant rise in hotel conference room rental costs.

As always, everything is handled in line with AA principles. After maintaining a prudent reserve for future conventions, any surplus funds are passed on to primary purpose work across the Costa del Sol and CER Public Information initiatives. In addition, all Tradition 7 contributions are forwarded to GSO York.

💻 Online Registration (Recommended)
Last year, online registration through our PayPal system proved very popular, and we encourage members to use this option again.

⏳ Open until 18th November (48 hours before the convention) – no need to rush.
Pre-registration helps us manage the high number of attendees smoothly and efficiently, reducing queues and wait times.

⚠️ A Couple of Things to Be Aware Of:
• The system requires your full name when making payment (Debit Card, Apple Pay, or PayPal).
Your anonymity is respected in the same way as any secure payment system.
• Payments are non-refundable
Last year, 5 members registered but were unable to attend. Due to the way PayPal payments are processed, we are unfortunately unable to provide refunds.

🚪 Pay on Arrival (Cash Only)
If you prefer to pay on arrival, please note that payment is cash only, as we do not have card payment facilities available.

Please note:
• The on-the-day price will be slightly higher

This approach supports online registration (helping with planning and organisation), while ensuring that costs are covered should online registration be less widely used.

Hotel Booking Update – 2026 Fuengirola AA Convention

We’ve been looking into the different ways members can book rooms for the convention so that everyone has the information needed to choose what works best for them.

In summary:

• Hotel website: cheapest rate, but stricter cancellation policy
• Travel websites: slightly higher price, but more flexible cancellation

Below is a little more detail for anyone planning their booking.

1️⃣ Booking directly through the hotel website

Using the Hotel IPV Palace & Spa website with the Promo Code: AA2026 currently appears to give the lowest room price.

Example:
Twin / Double Room – approximately 120€ per night

When booking through the hotel website, the hotel will take your credit card details to secure the reservation, and full payment will be taken upon arrival at the hotel.

Cancellation policy (according to the hotel website):

• If you cancel 15 days or more before arrival, the reservation can be cancelled with only the first night charged.
• If you cancel 14 days or less before arrival, you will be charged for the full stay.

2️⃣ Booking through travel websites (for example Booking. com)

At the moment, websites such as Booking. com are showing a slightly higher room price.

Example:
Twin / Double Room – approximately 129€ per night

However, their cancellation policy may offer more flexibility, with free cancellation up to 24 hours before arrival.

Several members have already shared helpful suggestions on this page and we really appreciate that. As a Convention Committee we are trusted servants, and we feel it is important to share information that may help members make an informed choice.

Costa del Sol Convention 2026 – A Further Update

Following our previous updates, we just wanted to share a further update with everyone regarding the 2026 Costa del Sol Convention in Fuengirola.

At the moment, the hotel administration team has still not been able to resolve the problem with the website's discount room booking code.

Although this part has taken longer than we hoped, good progress has been made in many of the other areas involved in organising an event like this.
