When you step out of a place that no longer serves you, all kinds of great things can happen.
Yesterday, we were invited aboard one of these...
To start with, it was just an ordinary Saturday. We had a lie-in, and then decided on a bit of work to catch up from the fun of the past week.
And then my phone pinged...
A good friend of ours happened to be moored up in the bay, and asked if we'd like to have a mooch around the new Superyacht he was skippering.
Hmm, let me think . . . Work? Superyacht? Work? Superyacht?
Such a dilemma (yeah right). The only thing for it was to consult the boss.
"Jules, what are you up to?" I shouted up the stairs.
"Bit of ironing, why what's up?"
"Make sure you've turned it off, we're going out..."
I can't show you our pics for privacy reasons, but suffice it to say there was much speechlessness when we were tendered back to shore.
The point?
Deciding to pack up our lives and move to Spain was a bit of a gig in its own right.
But...
The people we've met along the way, the adventures we've had, have been nothing short of extraordinary.
And none of them was part of the master plan. They're a result of making one decision to change our environment. The rest just followed.
I can't promise you a Superyacht on a Saturday afternoon, but what I do know is that these experiences would never have happened had we 'played it safe' and stayed put like we were told to.
You're never too old to break the mould. 50, 60, 70 who cares?
It's about deciding you won't settle for a life that no longer fits. It's about finding the courage we all once had, and getting up to make the move.
Because once you do, all kinds of amazing things will start happening. Not what you think or plan, just the best things - the unexpected ones.
Food for thought?
