arteventura

arteventura Artists in Residence arteventura is an international artist’s residency on a wooded estate of 25 ha in the Spanish inland. An ideal cross-pollination!

A philosophy of autonomy and back to basis form the foundation of the project. arteventura offers silence, space and time to engage in research and development, or create new and adventurous work. Artists stay in all freedom and don’t have to submit a project, nor have they to yield any results. arteventura aims to be a place where international artists and the communities of the region come toget

her. In the entire region, tradition still has an important place in daily life. Yet this goes hand in hand with an open mind and curiosity about what exists outside this region. arteventura seek to generate dialogue and interaction which can be an enrichment for everyone. This works from both sides. Artists can cooperate with local craftsmen, while inhabitants of the region are invited to meet and discover art.

June Residency — Bold ideas. Inspiring people. Remarkable artists. Wonderful vibes. Meaningful connections🌿

While each artist pursues their own research and creative process, collective reflection has become a defining aspect of this month’s residency. Through conversation, exchange, and shared discoveries, practices continue to evolve in unexpected ways.

Ilse Van Roy is developing a new installation for her upcoming exhibition in Antwerp. Her research revolves around a profound understanding of textiles: every thread, knot, and stitch is shaped by tension and time. These two elements become both material and metaphor in her work.

Anne Reijniers arrived with a strong focus on her project Certain Farmers. Alongside this research, she has begun experimenting with plant matter on film, opening unexpected new directions.

Isa D’Hondt embraces the opportunity to step outside the familiar context of her studio. Making full use of the time and space offered by the residency, she explores new perspectives that deepen and expand her visual language.

Hilli Hassemer and Peter Ripka work both individually and collaboratively on a shared project in which each explores one cubic meter of space. Through dialogue, observation, and reflection, their initial concept continues to shift and expand, shaped by the process itself.

Joke Devynck uses this residency as a moment to reflect on her artistic practice. Working across disciplines, she explores the recurring themes and questions that connect her work, searching for the common thread that weaves her diverse body of work together.

Thank you all for making this residency such an inspiring and generous space💚💚

March Residency Recap✨✨
A serene month where artists focused intensely on their work — layered, dynamic, and full of creative energy.

The artists dedicated themselves to their projects, pushing boundaries and bringing ideas to life. But it wasn’t just about making — it was also about sharing: knowledge, processes, and perspectives came together in open exchange.

Gabrielle Kroese developed a personal and poetic color dictionary — an atlas shaped around three themes: earth, color, and air.

Quinten De Meester delved deeply into his practice, exploring technical possibilities and opening new gateways in his artistic evolution.de.meester

Geke Lensink, who will stay with us for six more weeks, continues her research and develops her work further. For one of her projects, we visited the marble quarries in Portugal, where a collaboration with a local atelier is part of her plan.

To close the residency, we invited a small group of local artists and curators for a sneak peek in the studios and gathered for a meal together, where conversations unfolded, connections were made, and new insights emerged.”

Thank you all for being part of this creative journey💚

A residency spot for two artists in the two-bedroom apartment is now open from 3 November to 14 December. Get in touch if you’d like to join! Link in bio.

The call 2027 will open on May 1. If you like to receive the call directly in your inbox, sent an email to [email protected]

The remains of the day at Arteventura⚡️

Storm after storm rolled over us, rain against the windows, wind through the hills.
And still, the artists remained steady.

Days cut off from the outside world. No noise but the elements. No rhythm but nature’s own. Researching. Experimenting. Long hours of reading, making, reflecting. Conversations deep as the clouds above us.

Off-grid living — a privilege and a struggle.
Stripped back. Focused. Real.

And now the sun breaks through. Light returns to the studio.
The work grows, quite literally alongside the landscape.

Working to the rhythm of nature and the elements.
Inside and out.

💚🙏🏼

Work in progress at Arteventura🌿
We’re excited to share a glimpse into the work of our January resident Simon Masschelein. This small work-in-progress offers insight into his ongoing artistic research and the early stages of a larger project, which will be further developed during a longer return to the residency next year.
Simon Masschelein’s practice explores materials and construction techniques specific to this place. He is particularly interested in tapial (rammed earth), the ways water moves through the land, and the layered structures of local materials such as cork oak. Through hands-on experimentation, his work investigates the materiality of earth and its relationship to building processes, architecture, landscape, and time—considering how local materials carry memory, labor, and transformation.

(b. 1994, Belgium)
His sculptural practice is rooted in the interconnectivity of elements. While his materials may vary, wood, stone, and metal consistently form the core of his work. Rather than concealing joints, he brings them to the forefront. These exposed connections—hinges, joints, and structural links—give his often monumental sculptures a sense of tension, flexibility, and an almost anthropomorphic presence.

We’re excited to welcome the first residency of the year.
Three artists start a research period focused on experimentation, observation, and reflection.

Simon Masschelein explores materials and techniques specific to this place, with a focus on tapial (rammed earth) within the context of a long-term artistic research project. His practice investigates the materiality of earth and the relationship between construction methods, architecture, landscape, and time.

Nina Marte Wilson works from an intuitive dialogue with the natural environment, gathering visual, photographic, and textual material for a new film. Using minimal equipment, her research emphasizes observation and sensory experience over editing.

Keith Zarriello works as a singer-songwriter on new musical material. During the residency, the focus is on writing and developing new compositions, with space for experimentation and deepening his practice.

Arteventura looks with curiosity at what will emerge from this research, in dialogue with place, time, and process.

Last minute: one residency spot available in March.

🌿The Remains of the Day – 6 weeks of exploring and making 💥

Arteventura is buzzing with creative energy. Throughout six intensive weeks, the artists not only focus on developing new work in the studio, but also actively connect with their surroundings.

They meet and collaborate with local artisans, join inspiring workshops, and initiate new collaborations that continue beyond the residency itself.

The result? A lively, open, and highly active residency where art, nature, and community come together.

Already looking forward to the Open Studio Day to discover everything that has emerged during these weeks.

Kick-off new residency 💥💥

This week we kicked off our new residency with an inspiring group of artists.

Planning, organizing, and — most importantly — sharing ideas and creative visions around the table.

The perfect beginning to 6 weeks full of exploration, collaboration, and artistic growth.

Summer in Retrospect at Arteventura🌞

A summer overflowing with creativity, warmth, and connection — surrounded by incredible artists and their inspiring projects.
The air thick with ideas, the days unfolding in rhythm with the sun, every corner of the finca buzzing with energy and possibility.

Mornings in the studio started at sunrise, as paint, clay, words, wood, textiles, and ideas danced freely under the boundless Andalusian sky.

Afternoons melted into slow hours by the pool, conversations drifting between art and life, laughter echoing through the hills.

Long, sultry nights — tapas shared, music playing softly, stars overhead.

So much hard work, so much joy, so much gratitude♥️

Grateful to have shared this magical place once again — a space where creativity, nature, and community meet.
🙏🏼💥❤️
