The ROTARY organization was founded in 1905 in Chicago, USA. Today it has over 1,200,000 members in more than 200 countries. A truly global organization. The OBJECT of ROTARY is to encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise and, in particular, to encourage and foster:
FIRST. The development of acquaintance as an opportunity for service. SECOND. High ethical standards in business and professions, the recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations, and the dignifying of each Rotarian's occupation as an opportunity to serve society. THIRD. The application of the ideal of service in each Rotarian's personal, business and community life. FOURTH. The advancement of international understanding, goodwill, and peace through a world fellowship of business and professional persons united in the ideal of service. Here in Mallorca, there are 10 Rotary Clubs, 2 in Menorca and 1 in Ibiza. Our Rotary Club of Calvià is one of only two English speaking Clubs in Spain, although we include 8 different nationalities in our membership. We welcome all of you who are interested in sharing our objectives of fund-raising to help both local charities and also international disasters. Our most recent donation was 2 Shelterboxes, fully equipped tents for 20 survivors each, as our contribution to help the thousands left homeless in Nepal.
