FINAL UPDATE ....
Over 20 days in September and October 2020, local Calonge chap, Ken, cycled 1300km from the most westerly point in Spain to Palamos to raise funds for the local hospital.
An amazing total of €6350 had been raised, however Covid pressures and restrictions delayed the opportunity to present the cheque which Ken did in April 2021.
The experience obviously rubbed off on the hospital staff and now, motivated by Ken’s efforts, the hospital have created their own fundraising team, coordinating activities to generate further income to spend for the benefits of patients. This resulted in the recent purchase of a portable scanning and diagnostic tool which means that those suffering from eye conditions are no longer sent to Girona for assessments. According to Dr Paulina Lopez, Ken’s “kind gesture leaves us with a very high spirit to continue contributing to society.”
Last month, Ken was invited back to Palamos Hospital to be shown the new equipment. “It was great to see the result of all those days in the saddle, not only in terms of the new equipment that everyone’s donations contributed towards, but also how our efforts have shown the hospital staff a different way to get the tools they need, and encouraged them to keep up the fundraising themselves,” he said.
Thank you all so much for your fantastic contributions, encouragement, and support.
Maybe I’ll do another……..
