We are delighted to share with you the photographs of the recent opening of our 6th MABS Charity Shop in Calasparra.

The shop will be open on TUESDAYS, THURSDAYS AND FRIDAYS from 10.00 until 1.30 and will raise funds for the cancer patients we are supporting in the area. Previously the team of volunteers had endured the harsh conditions working on the weekly market so when the opportunity arose, they jumped at the chance to open their own shop.

The volunteers have worked so hard over the shop looking and feeling so good - please support them.

We were fortunate to have the Mayor of Clasparra, Teresa García Sánchez and the British Vice Consul Sara Munsterhjelm present at the official opening on the 5th May.

Update on Roman Burchell

Most of you will now be aware that we at Cancer Support MABS Fundación have been helping Roman Burchell, a brave 13-year-old boy from Jávea who has been suffering from a rare form of cancer.

Below is a message from his mum, Martina. We wish them all the very best and send them all our love. We too cannot wait for Tuesday, when Romi will finally be able to ring that bell! 💜🎗️

“Romi is now only two therapies away from ringing that bell.

The photos below show Romi during his treatment at the centre where he is undergoing therapy. The size of the machine used to create the proton treatment is enormous and hidden away underground.

The medical team at Centro de Protonterapia Quirónsalud in Madrid have been absolutely amazing in caring for our Romi.

Thank you all so much for your continued support and donations. Without you, and without MABS Cancer Support Foundation, none of this would have been possible.”
❤️❤️🎗️ Martina & Romi

Below is an update on Roman Burchell from his mum, Martina. …
I'm beginning to take deep breaths before posting the updates now.
The side affects from the therapy are kicking in. We were expecting it but it's still hard for us both. Romi's throat is "on fire" and inflamed. He is scared to eat and drink and he is loosing his appetite and weight. He gets more tired and there are still 14 more sessions to take..!!!!
We will not be using metro anymore but trying to find some other form of transport. The last option for us are taxis but they drive like crazy here in Madrid and it's very stressful and scary. We turned to some associations but they can't help us for many different reasons.
One of them is that we are not residents in Madrid or that we raised enough money to cope....
On the other side despite of everything we must stay positive and forget the tears... Romi is on Ibuprofen and Paracetamol at the moment to ease his situation. He still gets to do his homeworks and a call from his best friend Noah every day really cheers him up!
We also had a surprise visit from my brother last weekend who came for a little emotional support.
Thank you everyone for all your support, positive and cheerful messages and prayers
And of course many thanks to MABS who are being absolutely fantastic as always.
We will keep you updated.
Lots of love to you all from me and Romi

To everyone out there, we at MABS need your help … do any of you have any personal contacts in Madrid for reliable, safe volunteer drivers who could help ease some of the daily stress Martina and Romi are facing by assisting with transport to and from the hospital.

Any support, even small, would make a huge difference to this wonderful family.

If you can help or know someone who might be able to, please contact MABS Jávea on +34 634 354 091 and we will pass on their details to Martina.

Thank you so much in advance for your kindness and support.
Frances 💜

And another wonderful donation. The walking group WARM (Walking Around Region Murcia) has been around for 20 years. This was celebrated at the General Members' Meeting. The Committee decided to donate half of the money raised to MABS. This, thanks in part to a generous donation from Jessica OHanlon and Martin O'Hanlon , yielded a fantastic 200 euros.

This lady, Jane Durrant , turned 70 this month. Her friends and family made sure she won't forget this day. Jane raised money for charities on her birthday. One of these charities was MABS. Yesterday, I accepted €355 from her. Thank you so much, Jane, and many more years in good health 💋
