Todo Ayuda Project A registered NPO, which aims to support and aid smaller, local animal welfare initiatives When were you set up? What do you do? Why do you do it?

Todo Ayuda Project is a Not for Profit Organisation (NPO), that aims to support and work with smaller local animal rescues and community based initiatives by running regular fundraising events on their behalf. We are completely independent of all animal charities and are not directly associated with any animal association, charities or rescues in Axarquia, the Costa Del sol or Andalucia. Todo Ayuda Project (TAP) is run by a group of volunteers, who receive no remuneration, and is run and governed by the relevant Andalucian legislation, protocols and agreements

Who are you? Todo Ayuda Project has been set up by four friends who are all animal lovers, have rescues of their own, support and work with local animal rescue organisations or initiatives and who have a demonstrated track record with volunteer charity work. The founders are Maurice Jonker, Paul Bailey, Paul Tilly and Sue Bailey who are supported by a small committee and a group of volunteers. Todo Ayuda Project is a Not for Profit Organisation (NPO) which was registered in November 2022 and became operational in March 2023. Todo Ayuda Project (TAP) aims to support and work with smaller local animal rescues and community based initiatives by running regular fundraising events on their behalf. How often do you see heart breaking appeals on social media for animal rescues trying to save ill-treated, abandoned or neglected animals? How often do you donate? Or just wish you could do more? What we know is that every animal rescue is short of funds, and this often limits what they are able to do. To allow rescues to focus on what they do best – rescue, treat, foster and rehome unwanted or abandoned animals – we will support them with fundraising activities and campaigns.

TASTE OF CÓMPETA IS CALLING ALL COOKS! 🌍

Taste of Cómpeta is about far more than food.

It’s about a community coming together. It’s about celebrating the extraordinary mix of cultures, nationalities and traditions found among the people who call Cómpeta home. Every dish tells a story, whether it comes from your homeland, your family kitchen or simply something you love to cook and share.

And, most importantly, it’s about using that wonderful community spirit to do something genuinely good.

Everyone involved gives their time freely, and the event is held for the benefit of two registered charities. The cooks, helpers and volunteers all come together for one purpose: to create a fantastic day while raising as much money as possible for two very worthwhile causes.

So, we’re calling on both new cooks and our brilliant cooks from previous years to take part.

You don’t need to be a professional chef. You simply need a dish you’re proud of, a willingness to join in and enough community spirit to share a little of yourself with Cómpeta.

You’re very welcome to donate the cost of your ingredients as part of your contribution. However, we don’t want cost to prevent anyone from participating, so ingredient expenses can be covered up to a maximum of €50 per cook.

This is your chance to represent your country, celebrate your culture, introduce people to something new or bring back a dish that everyone has been waiting all year to taste again.

Different kitchens. Different stories. One community. Two important causes.

Come and be part of Taste of Cómpeta. Let’s cook, share, celebrate and show just how much good a community can achieve when it comes together.

Interested in taking part? There is a meeting today, Wednesday at 6pm at the Ayuntamiento in the Salon de Actors.

🇬🇧 Hi. I’m Sue, and for the past five years I’ve been happy to call Cómpeta home. Before moving here, I spent 14 years living between the UK and Turkey, where I developed a deep love for Turkish cuisine (and even picked up the language—though a little rusty now!).

At Taste of Cómpeta, I’ll be serving two vegetarian favourites from Turkey: Revani and Peynirli ve Ispanaklı Börek. Revani is a light semolina cake enjoyed across Turkey and the Middle East, often served with plain yoghurt. My version is soaked in lemon syrup and topped with chopped pistachios and desiccated coconut. Börek (or burek) is a savoury pastry found throughout Turkey, Armenia, the Balkans, and beyond—made with thin, flaky dough and filled in countless ways. I’ll be preparing mine with cheese and spinach, baked until golden and delicious.

Two dishes, one sweet and one savoury—together a little taste of Turkey that I’m excited to share with you in Cómpeta.

🇪🇸 Hola.

🇬🇧 Hi! I’m Jenny, and I’ve been living in Cómpeta for more than 20 years. Originally from Hamburg, I grew up between Hamburg, Málaga, Cheltenham, and Palermo—an upbringing that I completely “blame” for turning me into such a passionate food lover!

For me, cooking is the easiest (and cheapest!) way to travel the world, which is why I love taking part in Taste of Cómpeta. This year, I’ll be preparing khao pad, a traditional Thai fried rice dish that is simple, vibrant, and full of flavour. I can’t wait to share this taste of Thailand with you here in Cómpeta.

🇪🇸 ¡Hola!

🇬🇧 Hi. We’re Silvana and Steffen, from Germany. For the past year and a half we’ve been living between Torrox Costa and the beautiful countryside of Cómpeta. This is our very first time cooking at Taste of Cómpeta, and we’re excited to share two specialties with you: pancakes with apple sauce and Saxon potato soup with sausage garnish. Comforting, hearty, and full of flavour—these are dishes close to our hearts, and we can’t wait for you to try them.

🇪🇸 Hola.

🇬🇧 Hi. We’re Liz Bland and Elaine Cope, sisters-in-law who’ve made Cómpeta our home. This year at Taste of Cómpeta, we’ll be serving up a British classic—Toad in the Hole with rich onion gravy and a dash of Yorkshire Henderson’s relish (if Liz can sneak it past her Yorkshire husband!). For us, it’s comfort food at its best—crispy golden batter, juicy sausages, and plenty of hearty flavour. We can’t wait to share this little taste of Britain with you, made with love here in Cómpeta.

🇪🇸 Hola.

🇬🇧 Hi. We’re Margret and Martin van der Pluijm, originally from the Netherlands. In 2005 we moved to Austria, where for 15 years we ran a hotel with 25 rooms in the Gastein Valley - famous for its ski slopes, thermal baths, and as a holiday retreat for Emperor Franz Josef and Empress Sissi.

The people of Gastein proudly tell the story that this valley is the birthplace of Kaiserschmarrn. Legend has it that when Emperor Franz Josef was caught in bad weather while staying in a mountain hut called Gamskarkogel, the innkeeper prepared a simple dish with the ingredients he had on hand. The Emperor loved it so much that it became known as Kaiserschmarrn. (At least, that’s the Gastein version of the story! 😊)

Because this dish is so beloved in Austria - and was always a favourite of our hotel guests -we thought it was the perfect time to introduce Kaiserschmarrn to Cómpeta.

After selling our hotel, we built a new home in southern Austria, but in 2022 we bought a finca in the countryside of Cómpeta. After two years of travelling back and forth, our hearts told us that this is where we truly belong. In August 2024 we finally made the move to this magical village, and we enjoy it every single day.

🇪🇸 Hola.
