Did you know that Urdaibai has been a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve since 1984? 🌿

The only Biosphere Reserve in the Basque Country stretches around the Oka River and its estuary, a territory where marshes, forests, cliffs, beaches and villages coexist with the people who live there.

From Laga to Ogoño, through its villages and marshes, Urdaibai brings together natural and cultural heritage shaped by centuries of interaction between people and the land.

Even its marshes tell this story: a landscape that changes with the tides, where traces of how people have lived alongside their environment can still be found.

Because getting to know a place also means understanding how it has been shaped and learning how to care for it.

Euskadiko Biosfera Erreserba bakarra Oka ibaiaren eta bere estuarioaren inguruan hedatzen da, padurak, basoak, itsaslabarrak, hondartzak eta herriak bertako biztanleekin batera bizi diren lurralde batean.

🎶 Did you know that some of these dances date back centuries? Although their origins are diverse, many are linked to ancient rituals, community celebrations and important moments in the life of our towns and villages.

Será visible en todo Euskadi desde las 19:30 h, alcanzando su máximo hacia las 20:30 h. En Álava, gran parte de Bizkaia y algunos puntos de Gipuzkoa podremos vivir la totalidad; en el resto será casi total.

TOTAL SOLAR ECLIPSE IN THE BASQUE COUNTRY 🌑☀️

Today, 12 August, the Basque Country is one of the privileged places to experience an exceptional phenomenon: a total solar eclipse.

It will be visible across the Basque Country from around 7:30 pm, reaching its peak at around 8:30 pm. Totality will be visible in Álava, much of Bizkaia and some areas of Gipuzkoa; elsewhere, it will be almost total.

But enjoying this spectacle also means knowing how to experience it responsibly and respecting the place we are in.

Marmitako: the taste of Basque maritime tradition. 🐟🥔
Some dishes tell the story of a place. Marmitako is one of them.This traditional stew is linked to Basque fishermen, who prepared it on board with simple ingredients: white tuna, potatoes, onion, green pepper and tomato.

It was cooked in a marmita, the pot that gave the dish its name. Today, especially during summer and white tuna season, marmitako remains a classic of Basque cuisine.

Marmitako: el sabor de la tradición marinera vasca. 🐟🥔

Hay platos que cuentan la historia de un territorio. El marmitako es uno de ellos.
Este guiso tradicional está ligado a los pescadores vascos, que lo preparaban a bordo con ingredientes sencillos: bonito del norte, patata, cebolla, pimiento verde y tomate.

Se cocinaba en una marmita, recipiente que dio nombre al plato. Hoy, especialmente en verano y durante la temporada del bonito, sigue siendo un clásico de la gastronomía vasca.

Opened in 1893, the Bizkaia Bridge was the world's first transporter bridge and remains one of the most iconic engineering landmarks in the Basque Country.

Its historical and technological significance earned it UNESCO World Heritage UNESCO World Heritage status in 2006, recognising it as a symbol of the Industrial Revolution and the Basque industrial heritage.

But beyond its striking iron structure, the Bizkaia Bridge tells the story of an era, a way of life and the development of an entire region.

La Gilda: el icónico pintxo de de la gastronomía vasca 🫒🌶️🐟

Pocas personas saben que uno de los símbolos de la gastronomía vasca nació en San Sebastián hace más de 70 años.

A finales de los años 40, en el bar Casa Vallés, alguien tuvo la idea de unir en un mismo palillo tres ingredientes que ya eran habituales en los aperitivos: una aceituna, una piparra en vinagre y una anchoa. Había nacido un bocado sencillo, pero con una personalidad inconfundible.

Poco después se estrenó la película 🎬 Gilda, protagonizada por Rita Hayworth. Al igual que su protagonista, aquel pintxo era elegante, atrevido y tenía un punto picante. La comparación hizo fortuna y, desde entonces, comenzó a conocerse con el nombre de Gilda.

The Gilda: the iconic pintxo of Basque gastronomy. 🫒🌶️🐟

Few people know that one of the symbols of Basque cuisine was born in San Sebastián more than 70 years ago.

In the late 1940s, at Casa Vallés bar, someone had the idea of combining three classic aperitif ingredients on a single skewer: a green olive, a pickled piparra pepper and an anchovy. A simple bite with a unique personality was born.

Shortly afterwards, the film 🎬 Gilda, starring Rita Hayworth, was released. Just like its leading character, the pintxo was considered elegant, bold and a little spicy. The comparison caught on, and from then on it became known as the Gilda.

1940ko hamarkadaren amaieran, Casa Vallés tabernan, norbaitek aperitiboetan ohikoak ziren hiru osagai zotz berean elkartzea bururatu zitzaion: olibak, ozpinetako piparrak eta antxoak. Horrela sortu zen nortasun handiko mokadu xume bat.
