New recommendations from the European Society for Blood and Marrow Transplantation - The EBMT address an important challenge in the care of people with transfusion-dependent (TDT): the considerable variation in transplant preparation and conditioning practices across countries and treatment centres.

Published recently by the EBMT Practice Harmonisation and Guidelines Committee, the recommendations bring together available evidence on , the management of and ineffective erythropoiesis, pre-transplant optimisation, and for both matched and alternative .

The document also addresses treatments and draws attention to the practical challenges encountered in low- and middle-income countries.

For , transplant specialists and other involved in thalassaemia care, the recommendations provide a detailed reference intended to support informed clinical decision-making and greater standardisation of practice.
