🏠 BARCELONA PROPOSES UP TO A 150% IBI SURCHARGE ON TOURIST APARTMENTS

Barcelona is moving forward with a proposal to increase the property tax (IBI) surcharge on homes registered as tourist apartments.

📊 Proposed increases:
▪️ 1 tourist apartment: +50%
▪️ 2–3 tourist apartments: +100%
▪️ 4 or more tourist apartments: +150%

📅 What happens next?
The proposal has passed the city’s Economy Commission but still requires municipal approval. If approved, the first charge would be due on 31 December 2027.

🏡 Does this affect everyone who rents a home?
No. The proposal targets properties registered as tourist apartments, not ordinary homes or long-term rental flats.

⚠️ These are proposed changes, not a final approved tax increase.

🚨 SPAIN INTRODUCES AUTOMATIC TIE FINGERPRINT APPOINTMENTS — IS THIS THE END OF “CITA MAFIAS”?

A new pilot project aims to make it easier for eligible foreign residents to obtain appointments for TIE fingerprinting.

📌 What you need to know: • The pilot began on 8 October 2026. • Initially, around 10% of eligible cases may receive automatically assigned appointments. • Selected applicants will be notified by email and SMS with their appointment details. • If you don’t receive an appointment within 20 days of notification of your favourable decision, you should use the usual official appointment system.

⚠️ Important: This is a limited pilot, not a guarantee of an automatic appointment for everyone. It is too early to say whether it will end the problems associated with “cita mafias”.

🕒 SPAIN TO RETURN TO WINTER TIME ON 25 OCTOBER

Spain will switch back to winter time on Sunday, 25 October 2026, according to the current official schedule published in the BOE.

At 03:00, clocks will move back to 02:00 in mainland Spain and the Balearic Islands.

In the Canary Islands, clocks will move from 02:00 to 01:00.

The change means the day will have 25 hours.

📌 Is this Spain’s last clock change?
No. The end of seasonal clock changes has not been adopted, and Spain’s current legal framework continues to provide for the twice-yearly time change.
