Work Package 4 of the Fosterlang Project - “Linguistic Capital and Socio-Economic Sustainability” - is led by the Eusko Herriko Unibertsitatea/ University of the Basque Country (EHU, Basque Country).

WP4 explores how languages and economies go hand in hand. We look at how minoritised and endangered languages can be part of local development, sustainable tourism, and place-branding, while also strengthening cultural identity. 🌱🌍

By collecting best practices across Europe and connecting communities with policymakers, WP4 develops guidelines for linking language revitalisation with socio-economic growth.

It’s all about showing that supporting languages is not only a matter of safeguarding our heritage — it’s also an investment in sustainable futures. 💡🌿

Work Package 2 of the FOSTERLANG project is entitled “Languages in Crisis: Understanding the Value of Linguistic Diversity in Europe” and led by University of the Highlands and Islands (UHI, Scotland).

WP2 explores the challenges facing endangered languages across Europe. We look at how languages are passed on, how they are used in daily life, and why they matter for communities. By combining surveys, census data, and community voices, WP2 creates a clearer picture of the health of minoritised and endangered languages today.

It’s also all about showing the true value of languages — and how they shape our societies, now and for the future. 💡🌿
