Physics across borders (PhyABo) is the first world-wide network to exploit know-how and technology of Physics to directly improve people life conditions in terms of social equity, environmental sustainability, global health, peace and access to science. This page is one of the steps towards the creation of the nonprofit organization Physics Across Borders (PhyABo). The action topics of PhyABo are:
- renewable energies;
- climate change and sustainable development;
- complex networks for social goods;
- atomic energy and denuclarization;
- global health;
- access to education;

PhyABo - MANIFESTO
Nowadays the global Physics community is probably in its best shape ever, our understanding of the laws of the universe and the technological development are linked in an unceasing process of growth. Just to name a few, the discovery of the Higgs’s boson, the first direct observation of gravitational waves, the “loophole-free” Bell inequality violations, the discovery of the Trappist-1 planetary system are milestones experiments that have been possible thanks to the synergy between deep theoretical understanding and the use of several and complex cutting-edge technologies: these discoveries set the 21st century as a new golden era for Physics. However, apart from the necessary fundamental research, in these days we face important and urgent challenges as sustainable development and climate change, which are strongly related to topics as renewable energies, sustainable industry/agriculture and smart cities. Furthermore, humanity as a whole still has key priority goals as reducing social inequalities, fighting extreme poverty and hunger, enable universal health, as dramatically shown in the Covid-19 crisis, education and access to science, especially in developing countries. In addition to social and financial aid, all these problems increasingly need to be analyzed with a quantitative and scientific approach as they often require the cleverest ideas and the most advanced technology. We believe that science, when driven by personal ambition and economic growth, regardless of social equality and care of the environment, does not achieve its mission. We think that the community of physicists all around the world already plays an important role in improving humanity living conditions, by contributing to find optimal solutions to some of the mentioned problems. However, due to the hyper-specialized modern research system and the full-time work of most physicists in their own fields, we think there are both lack of awareness on social issues and shortage of communication between research institutes and local communities: this is not enough! We need to be better aware about urgent social and environmental challenges, in order to directly act on the improvement of communities life conditions and to contribute in preserving our planet for the future generations. As physicists, we count with some of the best minds in the world in several fields, we are experts on mathematical modelling of complex problems and we hold some of the most advanced technologies that can already help to address some of the epochal issues that we face: now it is time to act!
