I am honoured to be representing Shinning Empowerment Progressive Trust (SEPT) as Team Leader at the 4-day Safe and Inclusive Cities (SAIC) Workshop, organised by Youth Empowerment and Transformation Trust (YETT) in partnership with Plan International Zimbabwe at Plan International, Milton Park.
The first day focused on Strategic Planning, providing us with practical knowledge to strengthen youth-led organisations and improve accountability. We revisited our organisational profiles by reviewing and refining our Vision, Mission, Goals, and Objectives to ensure our work remains focused, purposeful, and capable of creating lasting impact. Although these elements were already part of our organisation, the session deepened our understanding of how essential clear and effective communication is in presenting them.
One of my biggest lessons from Day One is that many young people step into leadership because of their passion, commitment, and willingness to make a difference—not necessarily because they have been equipped with all the required skills. This training highlighted the critical importance of continuous capacity building and leadership development. It also gave us an opportunity to reflect on who we are as an organisation, why we exist, and the direction we are taking. These insights will help us build stronger systems and better serve our communities.
