Ya hemos sido testigos de innumerables reuniones, pactos y acuerdos sobre migración. Pero ninguno ha afrontado realmente la raíz del problema: la desesperación que empuja a miles de personas a lanzarse al mar en busca de una vida digna o, simplemente, de supervivencia.
El ejemplo más evidente es el Memorando Italia-Libia. Las personas vulnerables siguen partiendo y muriendo. Un acuerdo que solo ha servido para financiar violencia, torturas y graves violaciones de derechos humanos.
El próximo 17 de junio, los ministros del Interior de Italia, Grecia, Chipre y Malta se reunirán en Roma para coordinar nuevas medidas migratorias y reforzar acuerdos con terceros países.
Una nueva cumbre que responde a una supuesta “emergencia migratoria” que, a día de hoy, no reflejan los datos.
Primero se construye la alarma. El relato de crisis.
Después llegan la externalización de fronteras, los acuerdos de contención y nuevas políticas de bloqueo.
Europa vuelve a prepararse para levantar muros antes que para buscar soluciones.
Para impedir llegadas antes que para proteger vidas.
Convertir la migración en una amenaza permanente no resuelve nada.
Solo normaliza políticas cada vez más deshumanizadoras.

We have already witnessed countless meetings, pacts and agreements on migration. Yet none of them has truly addressed the root of the problem: the desperation that pushes thousands of people to risk their lives at sea in search of a dignified life or, simply, survival.
The clearest example is the Italy-Libya Memorandum. Vulnerable people continue to depart and continue to die. An agreement that has only served to finance violence, torture and serious human rights violations.
On June 17, the Interior Ministers of Italy, Greece, Cyprus and Malta will meet in Rome to coordinate new migration measures and strengthen agreements with third countries.
Another summit responding to a supposed “migration emergency” that, as of today, is not reflected in the data.
First comes the alarmism. The narrative of crisis.
Then come border externalisation, containment agreements and new blocking policies.
Europe is once again preparing to build walls instead of seeking solutions.
To prevent arrivals instead of protecting lives.
Turning migration into a permanent threat solves nothing.
It only normalises increasingly dehumanising policies.
