We’re beyond excited to finally and officially announce the time and place for ! During our conference in Ostend, we mentioned we’ll meet all you amazing in Barcelona—and now we can say it loud and clear: it’s happening! 🎉💙

Thanks to our fantastic partners and co-organizers - Institut de Ciències del Mar - CSIC, Plàncton, Divulgació i Serveis Marins and SUBMON - we are thrilled to invite you to Barcelona, Spain 🇪🇸, from September 30 to October 2, 2026.

🌀 Barcelona’s rich makes it the perfect setting for our next gathering. Its strategic location has made it an important maritime trade hub since Roman times and a major naval and commercial power since the Middle Ages ⚓️

🌟 Today, Barcelona is celebrated not only for Gaudí’s iconic creations and its nine UNESCO World Heritage Sites, but also noted for its significant on the - 🏖️ its seven beaches and 4.5 km of coastline were artificially created for the 1992 Olympic Games using sand imported from Egypt 🇪🇬

Barcelona is also home to Institut de Ciències del Mar - CSIC, the leading marine research centre in Spain and one of the most influential institutions in Southern Europe and the region. A truly fitting place to bring the Ocean Literacy together! 🌍🔬

🌊 Què és la cultura oceànica?
(o ocean literacy, en anglès)

La cultura oceànica és el coneixement i la comprensió que tenim del mar i la seva importància per a la vida a la Terra. Vol dir entendre com funciona l’oceà, com ens hi relacionem i com les nostres accions l’afecten —i al revés!

🔹 Sabies que l’oceà produeix més del 50% de l’oxigen que respirem?
🔹 Que regula el clima i acull una biodiversitat fascinant?
🔹 I que les nostres decisions quotidianes poden impactar directament en la seva salut?
