💖 Meet Luz de Luna 🌙💖

Luz de Luna is one of the young horses at ARCH. Her mother was one of the mares rescued from Doñana, and Chivi explains more about her behaviour and why foals who have grown up around people need careful handling.

Young horses can be curious, confident and very quick to learn, but that doesn’t always mean they understand boundaries.

Knowing how to approach and interact with them safely is especially important when they have had a lot of contact with humans.

💖 Conoce a Luz de Luna. 🌙💖
Luz de Luna es una de las jóvenes que viven en ARCH. Su madre fue una de las yeguas rescatadas de Doñana, y Chivi nos explica un poco más sobre su comportamiento y por qué hay que tener especial cuidado con los potros que han crecido cerca de las personas.

Los potros pueden ser curiosos y confiados, y aprender muy rápido, pero eso no significa que entiendan los límites.

Cuando han tenido mucho contacto con personas, es especialmente importante saber cómo acercarse a ellas y interactuar de manera segura.

Come meet our horses and donkeys, chat with our volunteers, and learn more about the work we do.

Children and adults are welcome to groom and pet some of our quieter residents. Please wear closed shoes if you’d like to enter the paddocks, no flip-flops or sandals! 👟

You can bring carrots and apples, but please don’t hand-feed the animals. Our team will explain why, and you can leave food for distribution at mealtimes.

🐴🍂 El Centro Andalusí de Rescate de Caballos ARCH vuelve a abrir sus puertas con ️u tradicional festival de otoño.

📅 Domingo 4 de octubre
⏰ De 10:00 a 16:00 h
📍 Instalaciones de ARCH, en Viña Borrego

Espectáculos caninos, mercadillo, música en directo, baile y actividades para disfrutar en familia se darán cita en este festival solidario, cuyo objetivo es recaudar fondos para continuar con la labor de rescate y recuperación de caballos que necesitan una segunda oportunidad.

No hace falta inscripción previa.

Desde ARCH animan a los vecinos de Alhaurín el Grande y de municipios cercanos a sumarse a este día solidario.

This is what it takes to keep 11 horses, 2 foals and 2 donkeys fed. 🐴🩷

A whole pallet of Saracen Veteran Mash, and every single bag will end up in a bucket, helping keep our horses healthy, comfortable and cared for. 🌾

For the horses, it’s simply dinner.
For ARCH, it’s one of the many essential costs of rescue.

We’re incredibly grateful to for helping us care for our residents. 🧡

Watermelon: 10/10. 🍉😅

Some of our ARCH residents enjoyed a little Sunday treat this morning.

Victoria was very wary of taking it from a hand… but put it in a bucket and suddenly it was absolutely delicious! 🤣🍉

Sticky noses, juicy chins and absolutely no complaints. 🐴🩷

We think they’d like Sundays to be like this every week.

Sandía: ¡10/10! 🍉😅

Esta mañana, algunos de nuestros residentes de ARCH disfrutaron de un pequeño capricho de domingo.

Victoria no estaba muy convencida de cogerla de la mano… pero en cuanto la pusimos en un cubo, ¡de repente estaba deliciosa! 🤣🍉

Narices pegajosas, barbillas jugosas y ni una sola queja. 🐴🩷

Creemos que no les importaría que todos los domingos fueran así.

Yesterday was a very special, and very bittersweet, day at ARCH. 🩶

Pastora came to us two years ago after being found abandoned in Guadix following the death of her owner. Yesterday, she finally loaded up and headed off to her new home. 🐴🩶

There were tears, of course. After two years of caring for her, Pastora had become a very special part of the ARCH family.

But we’re so happy to see her start this next chapter.

𝗣𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗮 𝗵𝗮𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱 𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗽𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲. ⭐️✨
Her new family already love her madly, and we can’t wait to hear how she’s settling in and see all the updates.

We’ll miss you, Pastora. Go well, beautiful girl. 🩶

Ayer fue un día muy especial y, a la vez, agridulce para toda la familia de ARCH. 🩶

Pastora llegó a nosotros hace dos años, después de ser encontrada abandonada en Guadix tras el fallecimiento de su propietario. Ayer, por fin, subió al transporte rumbo a su nuevo hogar. 🐴🩶

Hubo lágrimas, por supuesto. Después de dos años cuidando de ella, Pastora se había convertido en una parte muy especial de la familia de ARCH.

Pero estamos muy felices de verla comenzar esta nueva etapa.

Su nueva familia ya la quiere muchísimo y estamos deseando saber cómo se está adaptando y recibir todas las noticias de su nueva vida.

Te vamos a echar de menos, Pastora. Que te vaya muy bien, preciosa. 🩶

ALL IN A DAY’S WORK/¡TODO EN UN DÍA DE TRABAJO!
Aly and Elisabeth share a demanding workload. Not only do they have to make sure all our rescues are fed and cared for, they are involved in training the young foals and assessing the progress of those horses and donkeys who are ready, or almost ready, to be rehomed. Then there is the “housework” that needs to be done, feed stocks to be monitored and ordered, records to be kept, medicines and treatments to be administered, veterinary and farrier visits to arrange and attend. And this week we were given a huge donation of second-hand Spanish and Portuguese saddles and stirrups to store for a future tack sale (thank you Nichole from Rancho La Paz), all of which needed to be sorted and stored. It’s not a job for the faint hearted but they are both amazing ladies and always smiling!
Aly y Elisabeth comparten una carga de trabajo exigente. No solo se aseguran de que todos nuestros animales rescatados estén alimentados y bien cuidados, sino que también participan en el entrenamiento de los potros jóvenes y evalúan el progreso de los caballos y burros que están listos, o casi listos, para ser adoptados. Además, están las tareas domésticas: controlar y pedir el alimento, llevar registros, administrar medicamentos y tratamientos, y organizar y asistir a las visitas del veterinario y del herrador. Y esta semana recibimos una gran donación de sillas de montar y estribos españoles y portugueses de segunda mano para almacenar para una futura venta de artículos ecuestres (gracias, Nichole, de Rancho La Paz), todo lo cual hubo que clasificar y guardar. No es un trabajo para cualquiera, ¡pero son dos mujeres increíbles y siempre están sonriendo!

CARING FOR SENADOR /CUIDANDO A SENADOR
Dear old Senador has ongoing health problems. He has now developed ulcers in his eyes which have to be treated daily with drops. Rocio is giving him a blood test to see if there is an underlying cause. He is very patient!
Nuestro querido Senador tiene problemas de salud persistentes. Ahora tiene úlceras en los ojos que deben tratarse diariamente con gotas. Rocío, nuestra veterinaria,le está haciendo un análisis de sangre para ver si hay alguna causa subyacente. ¡El es muy paciente!
